Ive prolly spent about $5K on my car in the 4 years ive owned it. This doesnt bother me at all as i would have paid more than that on interest alone if i had have brought a new car like most young people do. I dont change cars often unless they r crashed or stolen so i think its money well spent.

car cost me 6k and ive spent over 6k+ in mods/repairs etc. probably a bit more but i dont want to think about it :P

majors were XR front, manual conversion, stereo, AU rims/adapters etc.

i really want a respray now as im pretty happy with its performance with the T5 so ill keep it a while yet.

Probably spent about 1.5g modding mine plus aroung another 1g getting out a few dents from the previous owner, getting hit by a stolen car (only a rear bumper), and one to my own stupidity hooking up a trailer. Maintenance has only been a clutch cable, central locking solenoid and a few oil changes.

Without sounding like I'm bragging..
There's over $5k in gear box, $1500 clutch, $15,000 engine with turbo set up...
AP brakes $3k I'll stop there before mentioning tuning and ecu etc....
But this has been along project since 1991 when I bought it new...

I really don't want to know how much i've really spent on mods... just by doing a rough estimate in my head i'm up to about $11K so far excluding the cost of the car. I must say, its proving to be a very enjoyable money pit.

Whenever I feel bad about spending money on mods I head down to Crown Casino and watch the fools loose thousands on roulette and blackjack.. i always walk away feeling much better

It looks like there are a lot of people spending lots of money on their cars. For those that have spent 10-50k on thier N/A non-XR EA-EL Falcons, did you ever consider just buying a BA or BF and modding that, rather than spending way more than the car's value on mods? Or is it just the love of look 'shell' that makes us spend so much without upgrading?

Another thing is how do you blokes hide the $$ from the missus (if you have one) to spend on mods? Once my missus walked into my study and pointed to the new $500 stainless extractors i purchased (and hided) and said 'what's that under the bed'? i had to think for a second, then came out with 'thats just my replacement exhaust manifold i picked up for $60, my old one has holes in it and is getting old'.
