The buldge is a reminder that Ford designed up, every time you see a GT or XR8, remember that is an obvious afterthought. The sooner it is deleted the better.

Correct - Bulge is definitely required for FG V8, wont fit with a std hood.

I hope you guys know that the "bulge" is nothing new it was used to great effect on the cortinas that were converted to 5 stud and strapped in a 250 xflow as they come 4 cylinder the 250 wouldn't fit under the bonnet so they put a lump in it and dubbed it a "speed bulge" but truthfully the 250 wouldn't have gone under the bonnet line of that model without a raised section - amazing how everything old is new once again.

yes its a crap pic but it illustrates the cortina bulge

that pic with the dohc engine - that thing is flipping huge :

I have a new FG XR8 with BOSS 290 and it needs the Bulge to close the bonnet.
Does anyone know where I can get the BOSS 290 Stickers that go down the side of the Bulge?

If the bulge was to go id see no reason to buy a V8 (maybe the sound)

The turbo 6 motors are just good, if not visual difference would be hard to keep with the v8

I think ford will keep the bulge, to give the V8 models a different look.

Its not the topic at hand and you can ask in any of the B series sections or BOSS sections ...... but seeing you are new (welcome to the forums) Ebay has heaps readily available.

I thought the 5.4 had a different block(taller) to the 4.6, if so the difference would be even greater

There will be another 8, whether its a GS, GT, GTE, GTABCD ...... who knows.

As far as bulges for the sake of it .... if it looks good and differentiates the models without being a necessity, I don't care. There are absolutely a multitude of designs incorporating all sorts of bulges, creases, vents, go fast stripes etc that are designed into cars purely for looks since way back when. Take a look at the VEll HSV Autobahn Special Bin Pack for an example. Every piece of it has some sort of 'thing' on it without having any functionality and absolutely borderlne on good taste anyway!

The XW bonnet vent .... supposedly to keep the booster operational? The XA front vents on the guards, the rear 1/2 vents on a coupe, Front spoilers on Cobras, every spoiler put on a family sedan boot just to name a few.

I suppose it seems obvious to you and me.
On the B Series it was functional and necessary to clear the heads and it looked great also.

I'm pretty sure that it was purely a design carry over for the FG. The BOSS sits slightly lower in the bay and FG could make do with a Flat bonnet. In fact I think I've seen FG V8's with under bonnet heat shields which suggests that there is more room on FG.

With up an coming Coyote, physical engine config and dimensions will be smaller so may not be required in a large car like the FG or replacement model and may very well be designed out ??

If they do, they will need to design in something else to differentiate the 8 from the 6 from an external styling perspective. But then again, if there is no mainstream FORD V8 , and all 8's are of FPV origin, perhaps the Supercharger will be more than enough to differentiate the 8 from it lesser brother..........

One the best things about the bulge is that it's function before form. And i love that it differs the 8's from the other models (even though everyone is putting them the 6's nowadays : ).

Newer models should be a bit different, similar to the way the xw, xy, xa, b all differed.

Yes, it is across the range. It is part of the car's "atheletic" appearance.

And yes, "power bulges" go way back to the late 1960's on many makes of cars.

Easy, leave the mufflers off it, the V8 noise will do that every time.

The bulge is a key identifier and "masculaniser"... its synonymous with the V8 Falcon now.... i cant see it going anywhere as it is part of the models identity now.

Not much help but have seen the FG with BA style decals and look orsm. They are more curved on the bottom edge so would have to be property made, Most sign shops should be able to make one off's. Defiantly worth doing IMO : : :

Heard on the grape vine they could on the new model delete the bulge and buy some cheap vents and grills from HSV suppliers similar to current model HSV to masculanise it ...... :

From what I remember when the BA was first released, the bulge was on the bonnet to give enough clearance between it and the intake plenum to pass the pedestrian crash tests.

I hope they dont. I like the bonnet bulge and will hopefully be fitting one to my commodore. It also tells apart the 6 from the 8.
