They are already talking about styling signitures from the Mad Max and Evos concepts going into the 2016 Falcon, so its not dead at all.

i already said i could be wrong, as i said it's my opinion, nothing more. No need for face slapping. Also they're using the term Falcon now as that's what we know it by. How do you know it won't be changed to Taurus when the time comes?

Surely there is enough volume there to do what Merc and BMW do with their 5 series and C class (or maybe S??) You get the point. All is not lost, but perhaps the reason its taking so long to work out whats going on is because the answer is one big MoFo from FoMoCo.

I'd love to see the Falcon continue here, and be badged as the Taurus in the rest of the world, that'd be a win win. The styling is very similar now obviously, just change the headlights to territory spec, swap the air dam to where the grille is and vice versa and you've got a Taurus.

It's interesting that the next Mustang is rumoured to have Falcon's steering and rear suspension design. With the CV gone, plus Ford anouncing their intention to solidly back the Lincoln brand to compete with the Euros, I wouldn't bet against GRWD. Headed by these guys here.

I prefer the layout of modern cars, I would find that interior awkward, look where the HVAC controls are, down near the transmission hump, and you'd be sliding all over the place on that bench seat. Personally, if I'm going to buy a car with a bench seat, slab dashboard and column shifter, it's gonna have fins and lots of chrome...not a 2011 model..

yes that sounds so much better. Also you're not part of the US demographic. You'd be mad to take it around any sort of corner anyway.

Yes, however I'm referring to the design of the steering and suspension set up, not the type of power assisting the steering. The one they adopted from the Territory "Virtual Pivot Control Link front suspension and forward mounted steering gear with variable ratio and Y-shaped rack". That is said to be in the next gen Mustang, as well as Control Blade IRS.

I love the look of those things, pretty sad considering how long its run for, you'd think that if police forces/taxi companies are happy with that they've got there would be enough of a market for them to keep running the same old thing.

Here's the deal for Ford North America, they had far too much production capacity
so here's what they're doing:

BOF Ranger + E150 Van - gone, to be replaced by Transit Van and Pick Up.

BOF Explorer and Sport Trac - gone, replaced by D3 FWD/AWD SUV called Explorer
Crown Victoria Police Interceptor = gone, replaced by D3 Taurus based Police Interceptor and Explorer based SUV Interceptor.

Elimination of old stale products and transferring customers onto continuing existing products
will make huge savings for Ford in large markets like USA and Europe but not much for Australia,
that's why FoA still gets to decide which cars ti wants to have......

That was the reason the E8 platform was package protected for LHD in the first place, for possible export to the middle east.

What's even more ironic is the reverence some parts of the UAE show towards the real falcon bird. They even have a hospital/research study centre for Falcons and the Dubai racetrack has the image of a falcon with wings spread as the steel structure of the carpark iirc. Imagine what could have been if they could buy a car named Falcon or even Terry Turbos...

We had a Lincoln Town car (think Crown Vic Ghia) with the 4.6 V8 when we were in the states in 2000 - was a very comfy cruiser - much better than the Taurus we had for the first 2 months we were there.

Fleets loved it, it was never really aimed at private sales. It was probably one of the most reliable and cheap to run cars you could get.

I saw one of these the other day in traffic, 300hp, first thing I thought of was TL50. If its not broken don't fix it, these crown vics would be the 79 series cruisers of the car world

Wasn't one of the most popular features of this car the body-on-frame design? Came in handy for police and taxi departments.

I've always wanted one of these. What a shame that Ford (US and AU) can't get their act together and export the Falcon for police/taxi use over in the USA.

Had the quad cam Cobra 4.6, but weighed 2 tonnes and was still slow, even with factory 3.55 gears and a higher stall convertor.

Was quite a dissapointment and sold poorly. Would have been a million times better if they had fitted the later supercharged 4.6. It would have suited it so much more torque wise. A high revving NA engine was not ideal is something so heavy. Probably a good thing this motor wasn't fitted to the BA.

They did a test on Top Gear America on a car under $500 which had to go 500 miles, they had a Ford Festiva, Merc 190E and a Crown Vic, ol' mate Vic won

It was an ex taxi, 426,000 miles on the clock, lol.

Ford would've needed to resurrect the Fairlane. Falcon would be "too small", and significantly smaller than the Crown Victoria.
