Didn't Audi in the USA, a number of years ago, have consumer problems with the CC or throttle, accelerating or something. Anyway, they did a test where the driver flattened the accelerator, then hit the brakes hard, with both pedals to the floor. It stopped in a slightly longer stopping distance. Brakes have waaay more power the the engine.

There is a Google entry,Toyota USA newsroom, which has a readers posting stating that the Audi 5000 problem was a beat up and that there was an apology from CBS 60 minutes, that is all I can find with regard to an alleged Audi problem.

Driver has just admitted on nine news that there was no fault with FORD and it was caused by a faulty mobile phone fitting

Phone fitting installed before driver acquired the car, fault identified and rectified by Ford by removing said fitting - Explorer back in owners hands again.

It sounds like the phone fitting "muted/over-rided" the cruise-control controls so it couldn't be turned off and because the happy (read gay) lunatic spent the whole time of the eastlink cruise on phone to cops, he kept the speed set at 100kph that couldn't be turned off. He siad at the time he tried ignition etc. so who know the real story !!

All i'm gonna say on this subject is there's still a hell of lot unexplained about this case. Also i hope ford charged him for the use of their brand new car.

Even though we now know why the cruise may have stuck on, we will never know why the brakes, ignition, neutral, etc etc all failed too.....his little "secret" me thinks lol
Although he has no idea about cars : he did manage to get free use of a G6E for a couple of months, maybe not so dumb lol

I bet it also locked out N and prevented the ignition barrel from turning, even though other explorer owners confirmed that it's possible while driving. Still doesn't explain why he was eventually able to stop the car (by applying the brakes). |

So mobile phone override the actual cruise serttings, and loose nut behind the wheel was responsible for not being able to change gear or turn key off (as opposed to taking it out, which is what I reckon he tried to do).
