When I worked at Ford in the 80's Ford they were losing engines hand over fist and couldn't figure out how. Made in Geelong, trucked to Campbellfield, and THEN stamped with an engine number. What the?
When I worked at Todd Motors NZ in the 70's they were loosing all sorts of stuff. The son of an afternoon shift security guard was a panel beater who specialised in Chrysler and Mitsubishi repairs. Would the ring the old man up every afternoon with his order, the old man would drive the XY Falcon Ute into the plant and load her up. Police did a stakeout and they got jailed for taking 621, yes 621 tyre in 3 days. What the? |

Couple of other "missing things from GM file".
Heard there was a couple of newish vehicles driven through a hole in the fence down at Fisherman's Bend, (10+ years ago) straight on to the Westgate freeway & off into the sunset. When GM Dandenong was running, I heard that new gearboxes were being stuck in the semi trailer toolboxes & vanishing. In transport, "if it aint bolted down it will go walkies", crates of 8 x imported Ford V8's being unloaded on the docks were not making it to Broadmeadows. |

So much for their ISO 9001 certification then - if it were properly implemented, they'd have sufficiently tight control of material movements to be able to prevent this.

More than a couple vehicles went out the hole in the gate and all were newer than newish - all Statesmans.
VN Grp A days the engines were built at Fishermans Bend, transported to Elizabeth, fitted in cars and failed on start up - valve & roller rockers were stripped out of em on the night shift - with a 30% shift loading for the effort The best racket was inline 6 days- you were allowed to bring your old motor in the gate & run it down the line for a re-machine etc to help out employees. Many employees took the gratitude abit too far and were walking out with new motors instead - guess what was fitted in every 1/50 new cars

The Asians at the engine plant at Fisherman's Bend use to gamble which cylinder would blow on the engine test when they threw nuts down the carby.

Lol, funny stories.
This reminds me of an old country song about a bloke who stole a whole Caddilac from the factory where he worked. 'One piece at a time' it was called from memory. When he put all the bits together it was a freakshow... It may have been the bloke who was getting around Elizabeth in the VN with VT taillights and twin sunroofs |

Don't worry, Julia will give them a grant to cover the loss.
You gotta wonder though; Clive Peeters didn't know $19.4m was missing; Transpacific $48m; Hastie $20m, and so it goes on. |

I think you'll find with most manufacturers etc the size of GM there are always going to be things going on. That said, if anybody works there, I'd really like to 'acquire' an L98 and some Coulson seats........

Its amazing what you can fit behind or under a false wall or floor in a delivery truck. I've heard it's been going on for years.
I've worked, sorry attended there for almost 9 years now.

LOL!!! I'm a subcontractor, for one of the bigger logistics companies, that has a major contract with GMH....won't say which one, but it starts with the letter C. When I go into the plant, they bust chops about accredidation and wanting to know the colour of my jocks, as well as checking my rig front to back and underneath too!Camera in your mobile phone sir? Hand it in to us, whist your in the plant....can't have you taking spy shots! But their lackeys are stealing stuff from under their noses? Oh! It is to laugh!

The hi-tech V8 motors, which are fitted to the latest model VE Commodores, retail for around $10,000 each through dealers but were being sold for as little as $1500 on the black market.

It does make a mockery of Ministers coming out and saying that taxpayers moneys needed to keep these workers in the job because they are some of the best in Australia. They may have some of the best thieves in Australia, but surely senior management dont have a great heads up on whats going on. You may not be able to control things going missing, but surely after a while you would notice some engines going missing. |

Sadly this stuff happens everywhere...
Just a bit unbelievable that they can get a v8 motor out of the factory without some sort of authorization.... I am sure many of the Ford / FPV badges on ebay are pinched out of the factory, there's no way someone is going to go down to Ford and pay $50 for a badge then sell it on ebay for $25, and have multiples of them!

I think we need to watch for developments, something sounds strange for sure, maybe there's another way parts are being siphoned off... Last edited by jpd80; 02-07-2012 at 01:45 PM. |
