We don't need to go there again. Wouldn't say no to a nice L67 myself. Actually speaking of overrated, how's the introduction of the Alloytec and all the subsequent timing chains and sludging - makes the Ecotec be remembered so fondly, even today. Lol when the Holden service department tell your Dad his VY ecotec was the best model ever, hold on to it - years after it was in production!

Based on that criteria, I'd be surprised if the JB Camira hasn't been mentioned yet

2010 to 2012 model Jeeps. Hyped during the “he/she bought a Jeep?” campaigns and “don’t hold back” slogans, and sales numbers went through the roof, but there were reliability issues and many owners didn’t return to buy again.

The only thing that gets a bloodbath is the VT's reputation over time. Only thing it can hang it's hat on is it sold in good numbers, but you also have to factor in a lot of people didn't want to buy an AU due to the looks, so Holden got a free kick there. Quote:

Audis, as much as I love a RS4 R8's etc the volume product, A4's/Q's have so many expensive probs if your the sucker out of WTY.
Gearboxs ! Volvo's as well, XC90's etc same costly prob. Badge sucker buyers but they would never tell their friends their Euro is in for repair !

When I think of overrated cars my mind slips to anything imported, and is generally something expensive to repair such as the already mentioned euro built cars. But they are built for European weather not to withstand our conditions.

Yeah, those bargains are now the 90s-2010 cars now.
Usually cheap BMWs for me. You can get a cheap E39 or even a E46 real cheap. That vintage of 95-2005 are pretty reliable - straight 6 like a ford. If you can work on a Bseries you can work on a BMW. Best thing is you'll never run out of parts - unlike falcons there is a worldwide supply. More parts at wreckers too as they don't get crushed as quick because the wrecker values them more than a domestic. E46 sedan 3l i6, 170kw, ZF auto $3k https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/det...-6170792/?Cr=1 E39 wagon, unfortunately only a 2.8L with 141kw, harder to get wagons with a 3L* https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/det...-6573579/?Cr=4 You can get them, one was for sale around me for ages for $4500, I hated the interior colour though - it was that orangey colour. Budget $4k for suspension, gaskets, hoses, plastics and you'll have a well sorted car that drives well for another 5-7 years. |

You just need to go on a course, so here it is:
Instead of saying PCM you say DME. Instead of saying BEM you say body module. Instead of repairing ford IRS bushings you repair BMW IRS bushings, same for bosch brakes and electrics. Instead of forscan you use ISTA Instead of buying bits from mr fpv you buy them from fcp. If you buy a $1000 or less e39 with engine problems you just barra swap it. |

yes and no.
I'm the darkhorse in my family back in those days being a local Ford devotee they were Euro buyers. As we know euro cars don't like our heat - some of the interior failures were epic but there were some that were good. I had a E21 328i manual hand me down, those things went bloody great and as oldel mentions nothing like that bimmer inline 6 ! it is a cracker motor. Handling etc would kill my beloved Falcons hands down. E36's were another great model to me. Funnily after all those years my old man saying, I'll neva buy a Jap or this and that his last 2 cars have been Lexus's ......won't get him out of them now.
