The story itself is vague but I'm sure there is more to it what meets the eye.

You have your views & I have mine.
Well I urge you to look up Marrakai, you will see that there is not one suburban street, it is all flat & straight (ie, perfect visibility) outback bushland. If you also watch the video, you will notice that the young man's property is in the thick of the bush. It is simply not the same as doing a burnout in a built up, residential street with houses near the street, parked cars, kids running around, people driving places- etc.

I generally put extra thought into what I post in the pub, it's a fact-check minefield. That's why, before I posted, I had already looked up Marrakai and knew it was not suburban at all. Thus, what I said to you stands- the old fellow running around with a gun trying to kill people cannot be compared to the burnout itself. Anyone who says that the old fellow was right to not only open fire on the young man but also shoot into his house where his family (including a child) are living is either not being serious or needs a serious kick up the backside. I do see the humourous side of rednecks shooting at rednecks over a burnout, but take a step back and think about how the story would have been written if the child inside the house was shot and killed.

Your grandson was almost hit by a car doing something stupid in a residential area. I agree with you that doing stupid stunts in residential areas can be extremely dangerous and are not acceptable. How would you feel if someone tried to mow down your grandson and your family with a gun? Quite different scenarios, I think.

I think this link puts the story in better perspective.

Like I said do burnouts where you don't annoy any one else....enough said.

Yeah, so? If you live in a rural area you should just harden up and put up with idiots doing burnouts out the front of your house at random times of the day or night?

Since Marrakai is in the middle of nowhere, he probably could of travelled a couple of KMs down the road and found a better place to do burnouts that were not in front of his or his neighbours house.

Agreed. Although I'd probably leave the shotgun out of it

Excuse me? Read it in context. After a member said that doing a burnout was no better than the act of shooting at someone, I pointed out that (whether the burnout was appropriate or not) doing a burnout in a rural area is not dangerous and did not warrant his neighbour to try to murder him and his family. After being told I didn't read the article properly and that it was in a suburban/residential area and hence much more dangerous than I assessed it to be, I pointed out that it was in fact in Marrakai - a rural area.

At no point did I imply anything you just said, if someone did a burnout up my street I'd be annoyed as hell too. I just wouldn't try to kill their family.
