That is a real shame.

Not many options for those of us who want to drive a manual without giving up on the gadgets, gizmos and comfort of the top spec luxury trim.

IMHO, if Ford don't go to lengths to advise the public in some manner, maybe as a part of advertising with a casual comment that "the new 2018 Focus has a conventional auto" etc then the past balls up may still haunt future sales.

I wouldn't touch a dry or wet clutch system as in Ford's own words they aren't proper auto's but manual clutch systems that act like an autos. Yeah right
Yes conventional auto.

Did you miss the part where I said the dual clutch transmission was dropped a couple of years ago?

Even the diesel in Edge/Endura is going 8-speed auto, the love affair with DCT is over.

No, as I assumed you comment only related to the dual dry clutch, which IIRC was the major problem trans ,whereas the wet dual clutch used in the diesel versions is apparently much better so I was wondering if the new Focus petrol would now have that. But either way I wouldn't touch either being old school

If the conventional 8 speed is now generic to both then great news and lets hope Ford make it widely known.

Nice car and great features but why is that I still think the front hasn't changed much in more than 10 years? I feel this way about all of Ford's small cars.

The thing I'm a little concerned about is that the new 1.5 is an I-3 Turbo which is probably
where Ford achieved a lot of its 45Kg weight reduction. Will buyers be accepting of a 3 cylinder engine.

Drove a 1.0 litre Ecoboost Fiesta S as a loan car recently. Not a rocket, but it's deceptively quick, a fun little car to drive.

I don't see why the 3 cylinder Ecoboost would be so bad. In any event, I'm not sure if Ford has officially confirmed final specs for Australia - I'd expect to see the foir cylinder, even if it's just on the ST.

Buyers on this forum? God no.
It ain't got a V8 or barra and RWD, so it's a piece of ****.

But to the rest of the country?
Why not? You can bet a lot of people don't know or don't care how many cylinders their car has unless it affects their rego costs, in this case, making it cheaper.

Have to say that I was surprised to read that the Wagon, in ST-Line trim, will make it to Australia.

Interesting to read that the lead designer for the new generation Focus was Australian Jordan Demkiw who also penned the FG-X Falcon.

The new gearbox was a Ford -GM joint development, GM went with the 9-speed auto
for added smoothness while Ford dropped a ratio but 8 -speed is still great with lock up converter.

Ford had the conventional Joint Venture six speed auto in the Focus since 2015, the dud Powershift
gearbox was only part of the reason Focus sales are so terrible, the car is just so old now and way
past its use by date. Newer fresher competition just walks all over it.

I emailed Ford on Wednesday asking if there was to be a manual version of the new model Focus.
Sadly no reply.
No doubt at some stage they will say there is no demand for manual.
Odd I,ve bought 4 new manual Focus and Fiesta in the last 15 years.
I demand a manual but I have no voice...so there is no demand!

Ford being of the belief that they’re a premium product will price it close to $30,000 than $20,000.

I think the fact it’s made in Germany and not Sourh East Asia or Korea means it won’t be super cheap.

Ford's power**** transmission debacle is going to bite them for many years to come. It's going to take a lot of convincing for car buyers to buy their product.

The 3 cylinder Ecoboost has got a terrible reputation in Europe for blowing up. It cracks a coolant pipe and the engine is cooked almost instantly because there is so little coolant. Have a Google and you will find heaps of people complaining. There is a Facebook group on the subject. Also it doesn't produce the economy that was claimed by ford when you drive it in real life. It isn't much better than an ordinary engine. All told you should not buy a vehicle with this engine.
