http://www.allpar.com/history/bantam-jeep.html
http://www.m201.com/ITM/ITM.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotchkiss_M201 last M201 retired from service 2000. I have done a lot of work for the jeep dealer up to 4 years ago. The vehicles are no more unreliable than any other European built models[most jeeps are from Austria]. The American built models are just as bad in ameican-exported models will be better. look at privately imported jeeps like the RHD postal service jeeps they rebuild when they get here. Air conditioning systems are made by very good branded companies valeo-denso-sanden etc-my guess is they are european spec jobs made to operate in Tasmania or hodge podge of cheapest tender. electrically these normally get to 4-5 years before they start to terminate. Most or my European mates asking why I would be repairing a 7 year old car unless I was living in north Africa or Russia. We all know frustrated engineers and parts suppliers need to work out how to get the cars to return to the dealers and buy new models without risking safety-use poor wiring and over complicated body computors.

A/C sucks on my Focus as well, at least on my LV, it won't go down past 17 degrees coming out the center vents on a 40 degree day which is pox, Falcons will go well under 10 no worries.
My WS Fiesta is even worse, anything over 25 degrees and its useless, on those hot days such as the 30s and 40s I use to put the windows down for 10 mins, then let the car idle for 30 minutes with the A/C going then get in and drive it home. Any Euro designed cars the A/C is crap, and Jap cars are a little bit better. This is one area that locally designed cars such as the Falcon/Commodore/Territory really have it over the imports IMO. |

Buy a Jeep, realise it is a heap and then you will weep.

I worked for a service outlet that was tendering for the falcon and ford A/C system. The training staff gave us great night out celebrating--then someone else got the contract and all went belly up. some there did not think it would happen-as they always purchased on price. If it helps the a/c in the D-max is lot worse than the ranger. Last week was around 25 deg and I drove home from work with the heater on full and couldn't tell the difference. for a good a/c system try a Japanese mid range models. Oz gets the lower spec I was told that most cars are sold south of the Newcastle-Adelaide line.

Just to tie up the info about the jeep that Kia makes.
Kia made the KM410 up until pretty recently for the South Korean Army which was a copy of the old Jeep M38A1. It's now been replaced by the KM420 series. |

PX AC is great compared to the so called AC in new model Toyota Prados.
On topic I had a Jeep for almost 2 years & 40,000kms and had no problems at all. Had a Chrysler for 3 years and it wasn't as good. Had something small going wrong with it every now and then. Then the engine died at 92,000s and I pulled the pin on owning that pos. |

I hate the AC in my Ranger. It is great jumping into our FGII and having the cabin nice and cool in a couple of minutes no matter the temp outside. I can never get it to the point of being comfortable in the Ranger and I do a 20-30min run in it every time I jump into it.
