I reckon it is a fantastic idea, especially on my mustang! The standard aerial sort of looks out of place on cars with chrome bumbers. It is why I have not fitted the hands free kit to the 'stang as yet.

Ive got a Celnet one thats hidden behind the rear view mirror, same idea and it works well! I hate aerials on cars therefore this is the way I have gone, my UHF aerial is also stuck on the inside of the glass, however the results with that arent so brillant.

Chunkz, you could just buy a patch lead. will cost you 10 bucks or so

Not all phones have patch leads. Celnet aerials are a fine product,but I do believe these give better reception .

i think its a great idea, and it looks pretty stealthy from the picture...

Aerial setups in phones vary from phone to phone.The 6310 nokia had a direct link to the aerial/Linking a vecro setup (inductive) would probably not work.However on a 6610 nokia it should work ok.

Ill let ya know how it goes but one question first is how do you remove the old aerial is it like glued onto the windscreen?

Will be good to see it gone thing its a pain when you wash the windscreen.

The windscreen aerials are generally held on by double sided tape.

Its alot smaller then it looked in the pic and the black strip is fairly thin. Ill try it out later today and let you know how it goes

Reading the posts I take it you are a installer/guru of all things mobile phone related
Nokia 6310i with the CARK91 and it works a treat but alas I want to upgrade the handset and don't want to spend a few hundred an a new car kit and phone
These new nokia phones with the pop port connections I have heard that you can get a new phone cradle and an aerial adapter that will plug straight into the nokia black box with out having to outlay huge bills for a new complete car kit
Is this true or is someone yanking my chain

I'll be putting a mobile car kit in my Ute before long, and taking up the phone mute system on the radio. Problem has always been the radio ariel and it's location.

Now there's a new answer.

I know where I can & cant get service with the normal phone arial & am thinking of getting an external arial for my little Nokia 2280 if they have them for the car.

I would gladly test one out here for you ;)

This is and isn't true. The pop port phone kits do have the cradles available seperately. However nothing other than the Speaker and Mic from the CARK91 can be reused.

CARK126 is the common kit for Pop-Port phones requires Antenna Coupler and Cradle to suit your phone. What model phone there are already several different cradles available. The antenna coupler works very well and I am getting good results with 6100 and 7250i. CARK91 kits are stil getting reasonable dollars on E-Bay so this may offset your cost of the new kit a little.

And there is a bluetooth kit for handsets so equipped but with the bluetooth you obviosly wont have option for in car charging or external antenna so dependending on your use of the kit they may not be the best option.

The BA wiring makes hookup of the phone mute and audio throuhg the Factory sound a no brainer. Only problem I found was the phone beeps/squeeks sms tones etc wont come through the Audio. So I made an adaptor that uses the Kit speaker and switches the audio during a voice call.

Hay Useless I just finished installing the kit. I must say it makes the car look much neater and works even better then the old one. The main benefit I found was it doesn't take so long to connect to another phone. The old one when driving you would dial a number and could take up to 20 seconds to connect. The new one is much quicker and I think it is a bit less crackly but ill have to give that more of a test.

Installing it wasnt too hard though i had never installed a aerial before and all up it took around 1hr. Most of the time was following the wiring back to the box and the new one was a breeze to connect up compared to the old unit. I must say im surprised the old external aerial didnt get stolen as it was extremely easy to remove off the windscreen.

I stuck it up the passanger front windscreen up the top in the tinting area and you wouldn't even know it was there from the outside unless you looked really hard.

I would definatly recommend this to anyone I was suprised that it worked better then the external units.

So far no disadvantages the only one I could think of would be that I wouldnt recommend people who know nothing about their car to try and install it. Though I think any forum member could do it no worries.

Also a more offtopic question the phone doesn't mute the radio on an incomming call. What part would I require for this and roughly how much? Iv got a nokia 6250i
