Why should we have to subsidize some stupid Sydney car show especially considering we are getting a bigger exhibition centre as well

While I do respect your opinion, I think you need to know the reason they are exchanging motorshows on a biyearly basis.

If they (Melbourne Motor Show Organisers) were to be stubborn, and not go into this deal, the show would not be worth attending. Just look at some of the manufacturers missing from last years Sydney show: Meredes Benz, BMW, Land Rover, Jaguar, Porsche, Aston Martin, Ferrari. Basically a Who's who of the car world. That is why nobody went to last years Sydney show.

Now you are probably wondering why does that affect the Melbourne show, well, most of those manufacturers will not be at Melbourne this year, without a deal like this both Melbourne and sydney's shows would be nothing but a farce in the coming years, and probably wouldn't last another 5.

I don't actually like the idea of having to wait 2 years for a show, but it beats having no show at all. With any luck in the future the Australian International Motor Show will be among the biggest like Detroit, Tokyo, Paris/ Frankfurt and Geneva.

My guess is that Ford will be making a very big announcement.

The future of eco-friendly muscle cars is here now, blah blah blah. BMW have the Hydrogen 5, so we have gone one better.

Ford will be unveiling the all new GT - H2O. The performance car that runs solely on water, as long as we don’t forget to bring the keys.

The display car will feature Ford’s new 5500 HP 9 litre W 12 QUAD TURBO cast from 100% unobtainium. This is a relatively new material made up of pure gold from the tomb of King Tutankhamun, the finest blood diamonds from West Africa, ground ivory from the African Bush Elephant and left over plutonium we found at an old Russian power station.

Because we at Ford are concerned about our environment, we have decided not to use mineral oil in the lubrication system of this new “super car”, so we have commissioned some of the best Japanese whale hunters in the business to deliver 2500 Western Gray whales to participate in our oil extraction program.

And if all of this doesn’t impress, Ford in partnership with FPV will be unveiling for the first time ever… an all new performance stripe package.

Although pricing for this unique vehicle hasn’t been finalised yet, we are predicting record crowds at Ford dealers all over the country so eager buyers can put a holding deposit down to secure one of these truly magnificent cars.

End media release.

AGAIN!

Its this mis information that really gets my back up on these types of things .......... when in fact if you really knew your stuff ....... you would know that the 'all new' performance stripe package is actually the same as the FG GT but with the words 'Performance' on it!

The rest is pretty much spot on!

reliable sources say that ford will have something big planned as they have had to combine what the would have launched at sydney with the melbourne show.

I've heard they will be putting speed holes in the GT's stripe package to make it go faster.

I don't get how people are now saying that Holdens new small car will be called Torana. The torana was a 4,6 or V8 powered medium sized RWD sedan, with the exception of the LX hatch. The new small car will be a 4 cylinder FWD shopping trolley. Its not a Torana in any way, shape or form.

The Holden coupe 60 was meant to preview elements of the VE facelift (curvy bottom front fascia). So it could justify it's existence, similar to the "Torana" previewing the VE's styling direction. Efigy was just showing off what they could do as well as celebrating their history (& they did a bloody good job of it).

I think VF will show its ugly face tomorrow, considering VE has been out for nearly 3 years now, and the Motorshow is now at 2 year intervals.

Here is what I think will be there tomorrow:

Ford
1. Territory facelift
2. Perhaps a diesel Terri 'concept' (same as above perhaps?)
3. F6-E

Holden
1. VF Commodore / concept
2. Torana / Mid-size concept
3. Something form HSV, nothing major though.

Looking forward to it.

I know this is an old post but GM have cancelled the RHD Camaro, it was one of the programs they axed to save money, so it won't make it here.

My (very) uninformed view is, you have one motorshow struggling to get marquees and people through the door, and you have one going as strong as ever. It dosen't make much sense to cannabilize Melbourne to prop up Sydney, especially when Melbourne is pretty much the centre of the Automotive industry in Australia (Ford, FPV, Holden, HSV, Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Daimler Chrysler and so on)

But, then again, I live in Melbourne.

As for goodies tomorrow, Diesel Territory? would be nice.

I went this morning (media morning) and had a look around. They have the F6E on the Ford stand, GT, and a very nice looking white Super Pursuit ute that I reckon will get plenty of attention. Not very exciting overall, the show, really. I was bored after about 15 minutes and spent more time in the foyer looking at the cars up for Shannons Auction. Holden's stand was nowhere near finished so they are going to have to pull their finger out to have it all ready for the public opening. Mitsubishi probably had the nicest stand, pity 95% of their cars are the equivalent of white goods though.

New Fiesta Diesel would've been a nice addition at the time of the new ranges release, but unfortunately we have to wait till later in the year.
With figures of 3.7L/100km, that's amazing. 1L/100km less than the Hyundai i30. Talk of those sort of figures would get around quick! Love the idea of a shift light.......not for race changes, but for best fuel economy.
And looking at the pic of the Hyundai IX-ONIC, it looks very much like the Ford Kuga!

Coupe60 will not happen. I hope it does (to watch it fail epically and hurt Holden's future product development) but Holden will have learnt their lesson from the Monaro revival.

At least Holden had the balls to build a coupe, a damn fine looking one at that, although it did have its fair share of build quality issues but thats another story. How sweet would a BG Coupe look and it would sure do wonders for Ford's image. IMO 2 doors is a prerequisite for consideration as a true muscle car.

Motorshow=boring. The only excitement i got from the Ford stand was the
new colour Viper, now if FPV added Cashmere interior with Viper exterior they
might get some extra sales.

Went tonight to the motorshow, it seemed alot smaller than years ago. Every brand had a smaller display, real shame there was no ferrari or mercedes.

A friend of mine who is an engineer at holden couldnt believe the W427 has many parts as the 30k omega.."that handbrake is on a 30k omega..those cupholders is on a 30k omega, that gear knob is on a 40k ss!" He is still stunned that people would spend that kind of money when an M3 is so much more again. Horses for courses i guess.

Overall it was ok, good to see some exotics, the audi R8 is a stunning car but a shame the FPV F6E is hiding at the rear of the ford stand. The new fiest was getting alot of attention which was good to see.

Went to the show last night with Kev and JerseyVics. Incredibly disappointed at the lack of knowledge and specs available on the hybrids and new alternative fuel cars, including Ford.

She was a nice enough lady on the new Ford Econetic car, but as she said she was just hired for the motorshow and was reading info off a little sheet they gave her when she walked in.

I didn't mind the turn up of cars, fairly good variety, but no specs on most of the cars... how do you expect people to buy them when you don't know what they consist of?

And yes... the Shannons cars were once again a huge highlight.

Just watched a quick Melbourne Motor Show whip around by none other than Paul Gover. Herald Sun Video link
Very brief, but who would've guessed that nothing other than the Holden Cruze would be the Hero of the Motor Show!
Also interesting that Ford didn't get a look in during this wrap up..."who would've though eh?"... but I did see the Ford stand in the background while watching them look over the new Nissan Z car.
