I think that is changing though. I don't think we need more taxes. Isn't that Kevin Rudd's solution to everything? We could just put electric motors in pickups, have a tiny 4 cyl to charge the batteries, and we could have better performance and 50-80mpg. That would be the best short-term solution until fuel cell technology becomes viable. I think taxing people to stop driving is a stupid idea. Something that belongs in London.

Not what I meant, the average annual distance traveled in all vehicles has
increased significantly compared to 1976. People are using fuel economy
improvements to travel further, not reduce national fuel consumption.

In that area the EPA and CAFE are not doing what they were set up to achieve,
a reduction in the national consumption of petroleum products and total pollution from them.

I see, I wonder if part of that are lifestyle changes with each generation. People just like to travel a lot more in general now. If driving was free, I probably wouldn't stop

Emissions cause cancer. Pollution causes health problems.

That's before we even start discussing Global warming, so any reduction in emissions will improve our health. How thick are some people to say reducing this is stupid!?

But everything causes cancer these days if you listen to the media, especially TT or ACA. The way they scare monger about it makes you wonder how we live past the age of 5.

Don't think they won't try. they'll at least TAX farmers for it.

Bobman, i agree. The govt should drop 'Carbon' from their carbon pollution reduction scheme and just have a pollution reduction scheme. ie get the bloody point~where the real problems are.
