If you’re going to spend +$89K on Amorok Adventura model to ge the turbo petrol, V6 diesel is only $1,700 more.
I really wonder just how many sales of the 2.3T VW will get, doubt the the petrol engine is worth the effort.
Based on the dealer I went to with someone who wanted an Amarok, in Adventura trim if you wanted the V6D it was an order and up to 9 months. Adventura with the 2.3T, they had 5 in stock ready to go. I get its only 1 dealer but its pretty telling.

If I was in the market for a dc ute and had the $ for this price set...
I would go the 2.3 petrol simply because I dont want a diesel entering and exiting my garage enclosed and attached to my town house with diesel fumes hanging about entering the house. Also the cleaner fill at the pump no stinking diesel all over the hands ..unless you wear gloves.
Any experts here able to explain which is the least polluting ...3.0 d or 2.3 t?

Yes, without HEV or PHEV that 2.3 EB option on a high trim Ute makes little sense.
It’s around $1,700 less than the V6 diesel, if you were able to get cheaper petrol prices
that happen in the city, it may be worth the effort…

My local Ford dealer also sells VW. The back lot is full of unsold high spec Amarok's. To me, this sounds like a common theme, backed up by the price cut on the 2.3 petrol.

In these situations the donor car always tends to outsell the adopted sibling.

Ranger vs bt50
Dmax vs bt50
Navara vs merc
Ranger vs Amarok

Obviously there are a myriad of reasons why but it must still be worth doing for these manufacturers. I guess there is no, or much less development costs so they don't need a high volume of sales to recoup costs and it gives them a presence still in that market.

All good points as to why you would choose a petrol but would you buy the 2.3 petrol over a 300kw V6 petrol Raptor for 5-10k more. Given they are based on the same platform and the raptor comes with not just the way better engine but suspension and looks as well, you’d be mad to pick the VW. Seems the people agree.

The top of the line VW is equivalent to a Ranger Platinum though which is near $90k.
If anything it maybe more fancy with its 21" wheels which the Ford doesn't get.

Are VW Amarok servicing costs similar to Rangers?

If I could build my own ute, it would be the Ranger Platinum spec with V6 EcoBoost and as a fall back the V6 diesel, but with rear coils from the Raptor at overall normal Ranger ride height.

At the moment they are throwing the first 5 services in for Free so right now, nothing but first 5 total about $1800

good list there. Noted the Hyundais as well. Be still my beating heart. Was recently in a CX5 and not a patch on the Terry, even when it's brand new. The fwd feel was very quickly obvious.
