I wouldn't be throwing it out untill it's made public that this is final, the software could just as easily be turned back on..

even if it is useless for those that are happy with there cars power like myself, can still use there flashboxes with there existing tunes.

but for those that wanted to change tunes, on there existing box it sucks.

id like to hear from some tuners to see what there conclusion is. maybe someone out there hasnt updated the files and they can distrubute the old tuning software around for those that have updated. then people can continue to use flashbox1 and 2 still, and and tuners and the market can not buy SCT 3's and shut them out of business that way.

All probably busy on the phone with Herrod, CAPA & SCT seeing what can be done, the tuning seems to be their cream job and this will hurt their bottom line every hour they can't be tuning..

The tuners should be organising a class action against SCT.

Apparently there is a Maximum off 300 Tunes before a manditory software update online, so even those who havn't updated are going to end up in the same situation eventually.

aghhhh. that sucks a bit. I bought the box and am just running the generic tunes with the thought that soon I'll do some more mods and get it custom tuned interstate.

that is 300 uploads to the box AFAIK, not 300 finished tunes. so maybe quicker than you think.

Depends on the amount of tuning, anywhere from 5-20 for a custom tune job if it's complex.

I've fired off emails to those tools at SCT, but nice ones, they can still turn this crap around.

Someone out there could probably create a patch for it to disable that "feature". There was a guy called "Nyerguds" on another forum who was reverse engineering an EXE and decompiling it with a hex editor and changing things around, for a game but it might be the same situation. It might be possible for someone to do the same but in this case for the software?

If it could be done that person would have alot of friends that own tune shops all of a sudden.. can't see why it couldn't be done, just all takes time.

I am only weeks away from installing extractors and getting a custom tune on the ford flash 2 box and this happens. They are robbing us of our right to use what we payed good money for, when i purchased this it didn't state anywhere that my ability to use this product could be stopped at any time. If they go ahead with this they should be forced to refund my hard earned $$$.

Good to know as I dont think I would buy from this monopoly as things stand.
Is your ute an auto?
I believe with Sniper you can play with the ZF box's electonics too, can't say the same for the SCT product.

I think it's fair to say that there would be a considerable groundswell of support if a Class Action Lawsuit were put together.

Count me in. It was never disclosed to me, either from the vendor or from the manufacturer, that this equipment had a finite lifespan.

It's either that, or actively pursue the reverse engineering of the now dysfunctional product for the purposes of returning the functionality that was originally sold to me.

I would suggest that if this is enforced, that all currrent customers should boycott any SCT product sold in Australia from now into perpetuity.

Has anyone notified the ACCC and sponsored a complaint? If not I suggest someone in the industry do so soon. This is obvious anti-competitive behaviour.

well i got the facts. I went to get my car tuned on wednesday my tuners software got updated that morning!!!!! So basically there was nothing he coould do. Called up capa. Nothing they could do. So Basically hes stuck with no abilities to tune and a mojor loss in buisness as he had another 3 tunes to happen on that day.
I was very dissapointed to say the least....Obvioulosy not the tuners fault. I would think alot of tuners will be hit hard by this.

I doubt the ACCC would be involved - there's no element of price fixing between the different distributors in Australia for starters. Consumer protection would be a better place to start. They will direct you to contact the place of purchase - your tuner. It's the tuner's that are copping the grief - they'd need to be the ones to question SCT's, and perhaps Herrod's motives.

I note on an email I received from Herrod Motorsport this morning the statement Herrod's were the only company to stock the X3 #3000AU - this is clearly not correct as I saw 4 of them on display in BPT's counter yesterday. Having spoken to a few dealers today there are more on order direct from SCT. They can also be purchased from CAPA once their order has arrived.

I wonder if this action by SCT has had the desired affect they thought it may have had. Gauging from the comments on this thread and the XR6T forums I do not believe so.

Chime in any time Rob and let us know what solution you have for us XC1 and XC2 owners.

With all this crap there is a lot to be said for the good old points and carby's.

Either way this is nothing more than greed and profiteering and we the customers lose out. Poor reflection on the quality of the very ones serving us (not the tuners).

Yes your right the dealers will be hit hard, the reason behind SCT doing this is to protect all there dealers.
Why do they need protection?
Its been reported capa was sending boxes for payment on a loan basis, so you buy a box take it to your tuner if you want a custom tune, the tuner uploads the custom tune.
Then Capa buy the box back of you once your done at the tuning shop, you send it back and they re-set the box and sell it to the next person.
Same deal with there generic tunes, flash it in your car and send it back to get some money back..
================================================== ========
I wouldn't be blaming Herrod or SCT for this, I have a xcal-1 flash box but the solution SCT have come up with is wrong.
SCT need to offer a bigger discount for those that are forced to update to a xcal-3.
