Assuming the new Mustang will arrive here with some form of V8, maybe what we will see is a precursor, a basic Mustang V8 “crate engine” dropped into the XR8. Of course the cynic in me wonders if this ins’t just a way for Ford to yank our chains and part us from our coin? They have the big “Last of the FPV GT’s” in 2014, where everybody scambles to pay full sticker for a “limited” car. Then they roll out the same thing as an XR8, and repeat the process two years later? Given that the beanies are now well and truly in control, its possible that they simply want to save on the marketing costs of having two brands? |

Just to clarify: the XR8 program is one single model, sedan only. There also won't be a GTHO before FPV retires. We've always said - right from the start of FPV - that we would only do a GTHO if we could really do it justice. That hasn't changed, in fact it's probably arguably even more important now.

cheers. Maybe this might be an idea for a limited run FPV GT's before the FH realise?? like a GT-R spec phase 2?? I think this would be a great send off for the legendary GT. without all the cop stuff in it of course

Got email from ford just then...Dear Martin,
Today, we announced the Ford XR8 sedan will return to our Falcon line-up in late 2014. As a loyal Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) customer, we want to inform you directly that this occasion will also mark the retirement of the FPV brand. This marks the end of a celebrated era, a wonderful history going back 12 years as FPV and of course many years before that in our performance relationship with Tickford. You have been a part of this journey, this history and we thank you for your loyalty and support in making the FPV models and engines celebrated successes. We will stand behind you and your FPV, offering service, parts and technical support for many years to come. We have planned a series of actions during 2014 to ensure the final FPV models’ iconic status is appropriately celebrated. But that’s not all. Performance is part of our history and will always be in our DNA. We’re bringing new performance engines and technologies in more varied models to our shores – from Fiesta ST to the soon-to-be-released Mustang. We invite you to be part of our future performance journey. Update your profile here and we’ll keep you informed of our performance news and ensure you are amongst the first to learn of our 2014 actions for FPV. Again, we thank you for your support. If you have any questions, please contact our Customer Relationship Centre at customers@fordcrc.com.au or via phone at 133 673. Alternatively, please speak to your local Ford Dealer. |

Just a sticker pack 'special' again.
Think GT Black but version 2.0 Numbers still TBC but 200 to 250 is what is on the grapevine. (should be 351 with the last one being auctioned for charity)

Well the stupidity has already started.
Current stocks of GT’s are being snapped up, and my Ford dealer has already taken 5 orders for the 2014 model, at $90k a pop. |

Thank you for the transparency Sinead. The reality is often better than the speculation.

Yeah this is great news....
Ford cant afford to build an FH GT... So instead your going to give the masses an XR6 with a 5.0 Supercharged V8... Why even bother! Time to go get the "last" GT everyone.

For the life of me I cant see them using any other engine than the S/C Miami. Talk of crate engines ignores the not insignificant cost associated with testing and certifying a 'new' type of motor for a car - let alone one that will probably only be on sale for 18 months.

doesn't surprise me with the 100,000 emails that got sent out like the one above, 90K a pop 30 years time plus inflation should sell for 1.5 million bit coins or credits or 1 ounce of gold or 2 chickens, should be a sound investment but 30 years is a long way away.

N/A Coyote is a spectacular engine in it's own right and would make a great base for a XR8 with a natural progression to Mustang. Though, we're Joe Q Public, who knows that Dearborn have in store for Mustang and/or Coyote that may be upcoming for slotting into the XR8...unless this is all pure speculation and Miami does continue.

If you look up Wikipedia, you will find the author of the Age article a little inacurate with the history of Tickford and FPV. He suggests the Tickford brand disapeared because it never caught on? It was aquired by Prodrive ... then aquired again by the Prodrive management group and renamed Tickford then .... the saga is nearly as sad as Days of Our Life!! FPV is no more .. hasn't been for some time. Roll out the XR8 and celebrate

Makes perfect sense as anything else would require more engineering work (ie more expensive).
Be suprised if it is the full 335Kw though - possibly GS tune or something less. |

In 30 years time they will be worth nothing CLOSE to that sort of coin. Infact I'd be shocked if they hold their value over that time.

Anyhow Ill see which way the wind blows. Ford have done this for a reason, A) to milk the FPV brand, and B) To milk the GT brand. Who knows they might not even build an FH... Whats the bet now? All I know is theres going to be people left right and centre ordering GT's now, works in Fords favour doesnt it.
