So, a 1L per 100 increase in consumption compared to the last trip posted above. Drove the car back home: Driving style: 20% City : 80% Freeway, 320km. Fuel Consumption: 5.0 L / 100km Total KM's on the clock: 35,500 km AVG speed:82km/h Conditions: 2 occupants, light load, empty roof racks. .2L per 100 increase. Not bad, thought the roof racks would drag more. They are the fancy 'Whispbar' ones however. On the Festiva, you could really feel the resistance of the older box style roof racks on the freeway. Did the same trip again, but did not reset the counters as the conditions were similar across the duration of the trip. Driving style: 25% City : 75% Freeway, 660km. Fuel Consumption: 5.2 L / 100km Total KM's on the clock: 36,500 km AVG speed:74km/h Conditions: 2 occupants, light load, empty roof racks. Pretty consistent figures. Impresseive if you ask me

So, my first post on this forum was regarding high fuel consumption. 10 Months later I can say there is definitely something wrong with my car!!
Fuel consumption went good after removing restrictive air box, but soon after installing my exhaust I got a huge loss in torque. A while later car had trouble starting and ran really rough at low revs. Cleared up a bit, but then fuel consumption went terrible. Got a OBD Scan tool today, and fuel trim is +33%. Driving style: 25% City : 75% Urban Fuel Consumption: 13 L / 100km Total KM's on the clock: ~ 86,500 km One tank does ~ 400km (All low traffic Urban driving). Mix of town/highway driving - probably 40/60% Fuel Consumption: 7.3 L / 100km Total KM's on the clock: 590km Average speed 45kph Just about finished the first tank of fuel and pretty happy with the economy so far. Not sure what fuel was in the first tank, but I am going to put some premium in it today to see how it goes. |

Fuel Pressure regulator Check the operation of the fuel pressure regulator....ensure that it is receiving vacuum...sometimes the solenoid controlling vacuum fails, resulting in richer mixtures during light load. 5. Fuel leak (even minor) Check all hoses for any seapage and tighten all hose clamps. Hope you get it sorted soon |

I would say that is probably the one, but before you start replacing stuff at random I would recommend you take the car in to Ford or a good diagnostics place, and get it checked out properly, there are several sensors alone which can obviously cause problems such as excessive fuel consumption and there's no point replacing one if it turns out to be another or something different entirely. You could end up paying out a lot of money unnecessarily on parts that are OK and still be stuck with the same problem. :(

Total KM's on the clock: 37,700 km AVG speed:66km/h Conditions: 2 occupants, light load, empty roof racks. Towed a 1/2 empty 5x7 trailer (250kg) first half of trip then returned fully loaded, prob 600kg on the way back. Approx a 2-2.5L per 100 penalty for towing. Knowing my dads maintenance regime the berrings are probably cooked as well....

Just returned from a short holiday, covering 895km with 2.25 people onboard (.25 was a 4yo) and some luggage that probably added another .25 person for about half the time.
Overall consumption 7.1km/100km. Not sure of average speed because I forgot to reset it, but it started at about 38km/h and ended at 65km/h. This is a petrol 4 speed auto.
