months max later and you'll see whatever deal you thought you got beaten down, so go where ever YOU are comfortable shopping at, get a good rapport with the salespeople and be honest and upfron, i have with a Harvey Norman store and get told if the deal is going/not going to get cheaper or to wait for a better deal coming up, and if i miss out on a sale after buying a product I.E my laptop, they told to bring it in and they put all relevant updates into it, uninstalled unnecessary aps and installed (after explaining their pros and cons) ones of my choice.. simple for tech nerds but very much appreciated for illiterates like me, so much so that i walked out with a Hysense 50" (that was on special for $788) for $650 which allowed me to gef extra warranty for 7years. a satisfied customer is all one wants

Don't fall for the marketing and the fancy discs they will use to try and sell it to you. Watch the 2 side by side with FTA content and you will see what I am talking about. 4K was bought into being by the manufacturers when sales of new TV's fell off a cliff. 2K would have made far more sense and is the resolution most theatres use these days. You are far better off with a 1080 set with good processing ability.

Not true. A quality 4K tv with up scaling has way more definition than a FHD tv
Even up scaled FTA looks better on 4K. Go take a look at a Sony or Samsung they have awesome processes. I will never by another TV that isn't 4K

Thanks for all the help, ended up with the Hisense 58". I paid $980 which i am happy with. First thoughts are that normal TV kind of looks really low resolution, almost grainy. Movies and NetFlix looks great. We only watch the news on normal TV so i'm not bothered.

Jeez old mate loves Costco doesn't he?
Helpful thread, I too am looking at a new telly. Shame Panasonic don't make many panels these days - will hate having a separate remote for tv + bluray.

Intersting thread, especially since I am currently in the market for two new TV's.
To those here contemplating buying anything Samsung DON'T. Worst TV ever worst DVD player ever. Last piece of Samsung crap finally died this week, and is now waiting to be taken to the tip. This is the first time I have strayed from Sony and won't be doing it again. Never ever in my life had any TV or DVD played die on me except Samsung, pretty much a few weeks after warranty runs out I still have one of the first Bravia TV's and it's still going strong, been getting used daily for well over 10 years, now my son uses it for gaming and it does not miss a beat. We also have a cheap VIVO TV that we used in the home gym and it's now the main TV till I can buy something new.

Aldi beckons XB...
Sony and Panasonic (and Pioneer with their killer plasma screens) used to the pinnacle of all things television. These days they both participate in badge engineering and as such, their brand has been diluted.

The Samsung one we had was 52 inches and was destined for the kitchen dining room wall, so you can have the TV going when cooking or having breakfast, but now it died last week. Was going to go here: Now will probably get a 55" or so to put there. And I want a 70" for the theatre room, so might have to start doing some more OT, to cover the extra TV or just stick the Aldi one in the kitchen/dining...

You'd be surprised with the picture quality of the Bauhn unit, regardless of its cost.

I am more concerned about reliability, I know they are cheap for what you get, but I still don't feel like replacing it every year or two as that would get expensive. Our Bravia is a LED and about 10 years old (might even be older, memory is a bit hazy) and 'only' 32". It was our main TV till about 4 years ago (when we bough the 52" Samsung), the Samsung died last week, and the Samsun DVD surround sound 5.1 player we bought with it died about a year ago. The old Bravia is still being used every day and is now my son claimed it for his room to play Playstation on and watch DVD's, and its still great. The Samsung cost three times what the Bravia cost and it's now going for landfill after 4 years We also have a 6 or 7 year old VIVO still going it's a 42" and cost $899, it was in the gym, and will be going back into the gym later this year once the new gym is build.

That's interesting because I've always had good experiences with Samsung. I guess every manufacturer can drop the ball every now and then (or maybe I just got lucky).

Very disappointing especially for the price, so I will not buy any more Samsung products.

And I can't recall ever having a TV actually die on me apart from one that got fried by an electrical fault, not the fault of the TV though. Probably just unlucky with the Samsung or lucky with the others...

No idea screen size, probably about 40cm or something from late-90's (cbf measuring or going to look but it was fairly expensive back then). Idk what their current product is like but Sharp made great tvs "back in the day". |

I have been looking at Samsung only.
Plan is to sync it with phone and tablet.
