What is the difference with a stock XT/Futura ans the SR model? My uncle has an SR and from what I can tell its only the alloys and the body kit. Thats it.

The Falcon XT is so well equipped now I can't see the point of the Futura.

They need to drop the XT V8 price though... its a wonder that anyone buys the things at all.

steffo you HAVE to have the 6 speeder with a V8, hence its cost, people who want a V8 will pay it.

Futura, does seem like useless model, but it will probably stay just so it can size up against the Acclaim. I dont really see Ford dropping, its not like it takes any longer to make, slap some mags on an XT, add some badges and some airbags and hey presto, cancelling it isnt going to free up any production.

I also think the Fairmont is a good car, essentially it is the luxury model, whilst the Ghia is the sports/luxury model, i think the fairmont is an OK buy, not everyone wants leather.

And finally the XT V8 is a fine car, much better than the SV8 and a damn sight cheaper an XR8 (and an awesome sleeper to boot).

On BA SR had over XT
front side Rear skirts
bootlid wing
17" alloys
power glass all 4 windows
6 cd stacker
sports steering wheel
different seat and door trim
and (to me) most importantly
sports (ghia) suspension.
-
on BF i think you add leather shift lever and rear parking sensors but lose the body kit.

Yeah but...

Ford Falcon XT Sedan - 190kW 380Nm - Four-Speed Automatic: $34,880

Ford Falcon XT V8 Sedan - 230kW 500Nm - Six-Speed Automatic: $42,735

Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo Sedan - 245kW 480Nm - Six-Speed Manual: $46,405

Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo Sedan - 245kW 480Nm - Six-Speed Automatic: $47,655

Is the XT with a V8 engine really worth that much? I don't think so.

SR-XR6na-Ghia-XR6T/8-FPV is sports tree

The SR is an upspeced XT. I've seen the literature before the launch(by this I mean what the extra bits added from an XT).

I thought it was only the futura wagon that was getting dropped?

Also I think the commo's come out with A/C standard, my friend works for one of the dealerships and went and asked for me as we were having this discussion. She says that she was told that they do (i know my friends, sisters boyfriend talk but she dosn't talk s#it)

A/C is still an option on Commodore Exec's- Though i doubt any are now made without it.

http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/...000&catid=1008

Its actually an interesting story though, my old man actually bought a VP Executive back in 1992 at the auctions, immaculate car only had 20 thousand klms onit only to get it home and realise it didnt have Aircon. (I think even at this stage i think A/c was standard on the EBII)

Imo, XR's should be a bit special, like they used to be in the Tickford days, FFS a XT is just as quick. Maybe 5 - 10kw more than a XT.

XRs can have the 6 speed auto (XTs SRs cant),
XR has the XR suspension, 18" wheels and tyres.
XR has different diff ratio for quicker acceleration.
(mind you a XT will cruise on freeway at lower revs)
XR has the body kit, different dash fascia and seats.
so its a bit special if you like.

There are 3 suspension set ups (on sedans)
std suspension (XT-Futura-Fairmont)
sports (SR - Ghia)
XR sports (XR)
I'm not sure but i think the GT suspension is unchanged from XR.

FPV has different suspension settings (spring rate and possibly camber/castor sttings) than XRs.

No it wouldn't. ED and EF XR6 wagons are a classic example. They just won't sell, nobody bar the fleets want wagons anymore. Ford will probably drop the wagon anyway.

The Futura won't be dropped anyway, the fleets like them as they are safer than the XT with the side airbags. Unless the SR becomes a full time model to replace it.

I think the XT has to be vamped up a bit at least. We have one, but it's got a fair few options (kit, spoiler, ABS etc..). But things like no power windows in the rear etc are pretty lame to me, I mean, cars 30 years old now had power windows all round, this is 2006 people!

I think you'll find that Ford initially planed the XT to start with 'X' to hint it towards entry sports.. i.e. the trees were:

XT - XR6 - XR6T - XR8 (X = sports)
Futura - Fairmont - Fairmont Ghia - Fairlane (F = luxury)

I highly doubt a FPV model (GT or Typhoon) will every have a better resale % than an XR. Just because of the price difference when new.

But I could be wrong Guess time will tell...

FPVs have a better resale % over the XR's, but as they become more popular resale values will lower, plus the fact that the earlier ones were so POORLY optioned thanks to Ford and their cost budget department this seriously hurts them, specially the GT and Pursuit, as in stock format their interiors were as bland as a Stock XR6....

*works for holden dealer*

I can't ever remember seeing a commy without air. It is still an option however on the Exec.

They do it as a marketing ploy. Take cor example the current Special edition SVZ, they say over $6000 worth of extras for free, however take out the "cost" of AC and you would only be getting $4000 worth of extras.

From a marketing point, which sounds better to you?
