Yeah, my BA suffered terribly with (stock) brake fade coming down a mountain with 2 harleys on the back. Low gears all the way and pray hard. Bendix pads and cooling ducts fixed the fade but rotor consumption could be measured weekly.

FG with ABS has been fantastic on the stock pads and rotors, it's why I'm hesitant to change to DBA/Bendix etc.

Just been across the Simpson in my brother's PK Ranger with big wheels/tyres, slipping clutch and no brakes, the FG's pedal feels brilliant by comparison.

Might be cheaper to leave mine alone and drive the Ranger once a month.

Stock steel 16" wheels, bilsteins and braided brake lines. At 270k due for my last machine of the original discs and a new set of stock pads.

Previous BA ute would consume a set of (front) DBA discs and 2 sets of Bendix Metal King pads every 50-60K, and I don't drive the FG any different. Don't know if there was a technical problem with the BA, but I'm keen to keep the stock disc/pad on the FG.

My problem is I hate the long spongy pedal of Aussie made cars, I want the feel of my Brembo equipped motorcycles. Short and firm, but with great feel. So would that require some change in the master cylinder piston size, the brake booster, or the pedal box?

The problem is we can't compare your bike brakes a to your car brakes as they are so different. If you go bigger in bore size on the master cylinder for a firmer pedal you will need more pedal force to pull you up plus $$$$$$$.
You can try different brake pads and fluid but i am sure it wont ever get as good in firmness as your bike sorry.

Hi all.
Im looking at replacement opinions for rotors on my fg gtp.
I would like two piece all round with nice looking slotts as the car is headed to be street/show/ family car,
But it seems off the shelf, its looking like
Front end, dba t3 5000 series (2 piece)
Rear end, to have matching t3 slots is the
dba t3 4000 series (1 piece only avaliable)

Any input in this big steep would be helpfull
Its a must to keep existing brembo 6 and 4 pot setup

can't have two piece rears because of the hand brake is a drum style.

the DBA 5000/4000 is what I run on my GT-P. with some good pads, is a great upgrade from the factory setup.
let Matt help you choose pads, the right pad for you will depend on your usage.

Hi Matt,

I drive a BF MKII Ute with 16" steelies, it's an XL and to my dismay has NO ABS!!! (in this day and age... I didn't even think to check!)

Anyway, I can see that if I upgrade to the 328mm disc I'll need new rims and I'm on a budget.

I'm in my 50's and I drive like a grandpa now, but I was disappointed when I fitted speed sleeders to the ute and did three crash stops and found the brakes starting to fade already. The stock brakes are pathetic...

My question is, is it worth it (will I notice the difference) fitting stock sized slotted rotors and better pads, or am I better off sourcing a set of 17" or 18" rims and fitting the 328mm slotted rotors?

AND

Did the G6 have the bigger rotors, as I'm looking at a set of rims off a wrecked vehicle?

thanks for your time.

The front upgrade is 322mm and takes the same pad as the 298mm kit but with the larger rotor and a good set of pad is a better option. All Turbo and V8 Fords in BF and FG have the 322mm set up. You could also try the DBA T2 rotors and the dba XP all round as we have found that a good improvement on the RTV cars.

We could custom make two piece rear rotors for you but the cost may put you off as if you were going to do it you would also go bigger rears. If there was interest we would do it.

BF MK11XL rear rotors are 303mm solid.
You can get the top of the line DBA T3 slotted rotors and there DBA SP street brake pads for about $470 delivered Australia wide.

Hi Matt.

Just wanted to get pricing and availability on FG rear 303mm solid rotors and pads.

Not sure if I could be bothered with slotted though on them ... and the factory items actually managed to make it to 220,000km with no issues.

And if you have them anything in stock to pick as as soon as i can .... please.

As a side note.
Had no notification it was going to do this until it started grinding on the way to work this morning

As I mentioned though .... 220,000km from OE is pretty decent in my book.
(my fault though .... has been a while since i checked them)

Thanks in advance

No but now me bad lol.
Brake pads would be an extra $260 to $360 depends on brand but the cheaper option quoted is the DBA SP STREET Pads and the dearer is the new Project Mu NS-EP brake pads.

Prices range from $120 to $220 each set but most popular are the Project Mu pads still and would cost about $350 for both sets. These are less dust as well.

Hi Matt,

hoping that you may be able to help me with some information on some rotors that i have in my shed.
they are the same with the exception of the rotor thickness part numbers as below with the only difference being the AA and AB.

i believe the AA are AU falcon but not sure on the AB set being thinner.

brake rotor part # 84222C026 AA

brake rotor part # 84222C026 AB

Cheers Shane

Thanks Matt.

i forgot to mention that they are rear rotors both with elliptical grooves and the thin one is only 10mm thick.
Could be
AU REAR Series 1 DBA501 287MM X 10.5MM
Eliptical slot disc sounds like could be rear BA which is 303mm x 16mm DBA505
