That's right, Audi!
Running On Empty I remember this one, got it on Betamax! I think the hero car that the underdog was trying to beat in illegal drags was a Camaro. I'm not sure where it was filmed, but a racing part of it reminds me of Dynon Rd, Melbourne, back in the late '70s.

The Professionals Old British cop show featuring Bodie and Doyle, agents for MI5 or CI5, one of the two. They drove little Ford coupes and drove them hard. Every episode had some crazy driving, even when not in a car chase.
Point Break Surfers, including Patrick Swayze, are robbing banks and Keanu Reeves goes undercover to get in with the gang and bust them. Keanu has to rob a bank to be accepted into the gang and the cops bust one of the robberies. There's a brief car chase but then a long foot chase that never lets up. James Bond: The Spy Who Loved Me A Lotus Espirit that turns into a submarine after a chase. James Bond: The Living Daylights Aston Martin V8 Vantage with missles and skiing outriggers, spiked tyres, jet propoulsion and hidden guns. James Bond: For Your Eyes Only Bond's Lotus gets blown up when someone tries to steal it (anti-theft device) so he borrows one of those tiny yellow Fiats or something and an amusing chase follows.

I will always say Mad Max 1 & 2 are my ultimate favourites.
Closely followed by Bullitt and (original) Gone in 60 (Sh1ts all over Nic Cage). I could watch these chases over and over! Runing on empty didn't have a car chase, just racing.

Sugarhill Express A couple lose their baby in trouble with the law and create a mass media / crowd / police following as they drive through the states to get to their baby. Stars Goldie Hawn and that rude EPA man from Ghostbusters. A funny scene is when the couple pull over in a stolen cop car for petrol, then depart. The trailing one hundred cop cars then pull over for petrol, too.

Haha, yes. Must rent it and watch it with the g/f sometime.
Midnight Run Robert Deniro is a bounty hunter who is trying to take his bounty back for trial but keeps getting interrupted by bad guys who want to silence him and a fellow bounty hunter. Disorganised Crime Corbin Bernsen and Lou Diamond Philips star in this crime comedy about a group of idiots who have this great plan to rob a bank but it goes bad. The plan is centred around this cool Vista Cruiser. If I ever wanted to buy a station wagon, I'd get a Vista Cruiser.

Gone in 60 Seconds, both.
The Italian Job, Original, the new one sucked. Ronin, wrong side of road through tunnels, shooting while driving, rocket launcher out the sunroof, all good! Smokey and the Bandit! How come no one's mentioned it?! Gotta laugh at the massive truck/smokey destruction derby in number 2. Quote:

What about Deathrace 2000, Stalone's first movie. Worth every cent of the $2.99 asking price on "budget" DVD...

Sugarland Express, my mistake.
The other "black car terrorising people" film was Wheels of Terror.

Love the part in Bullit where the 'Stang tried to bump the Charger off the road .. Charger doesn't move and the 'Stang bounces off bouncing all over the road!!
[ Where do I get one of those 24-speed gearboxes like in the 'Stang? And where do I get tyres that squeal in dirt? ] |

They still add tyre screech on dirt roads in films today.
I've lost count of the number of times I've popped the Bullit DVD in just to watch the car chase.

I saw Dukes of Hazard last night, I know it is not a car chase, but the out takes after Dukes of hazard look very painful. There are some scary out takes and some very second hand chargers.

TRIVIA- In the original Vanishing Point they substituted a Camaro in place of the Hemi Challenger when it rams the bulldozers!

Blue Thunder This is about helicopters mainly and it has a little car chase but a big chase at the end with choppers flying around skyscrapers in downtown LA and under bridges of the LA River.
