Starting to feel the pinch now.

The Cortina club that supplies almost every part, repro, have shut up shop all together.

A couple of my suppliers (Charade GTti gaskets) have stopped posting internationally and my one other chance is saying FEDEX isn't posting to all parts of Australia, I'm in this area apparently.

So time to adapt and overcome.
I have a relative in the UK that may be able to help with triangular shipping, I can buy sheets of gasket cork locally and have a go at making a gasket myself or less than ideal, tubes of RTV silicone are available, locally again, and cheap.

Interesting times

I had some parts come from Italy in less than 2 weeks... Others from Melbourne (before 2nd Covid19 wave) took 3 weeks. A lot of it domestically comes down to who you choose to courier your stuff.

Brickbats and Bouquets…

Parcel lodged Southampton October 27th, arrived today.

Just plain old “International Signed” airmail.

An identical part travelling locally is still on the move…

Where in WA are you? FedEx are still business as usual and if no FedEx coverage where you are at we use TNT or Aus Post to get it there.

There's a small independent business called Yesterford in Bayswater here in Melbourne which specialises in all those British Fords, its only pre 1980 stuff though.

Melbourne freight went to crap in the Stage 4 restrictions when everyone who didn't have to close down had to reduce staff by 30%, all the sudden freight pickups become touch and go, Australia Post/Startrack became even more useless, so much so that I found sending things via other normal road freight couriers was much faster than Startrack's express services.

They've been delaying everything and losing stuff left right and centre, so much so that it ended up quicker getting lost items on another manufacturing run and sending via another courier before things got delivered to customers.

I'm talking 12-14 days Melbourne to Melbourne via Startrack's air services.

Even now the freight pickups are still hit and miss and same with the deliveries from anything involving the Australia Post group.

I did two orders through rock auto and one through FCP last week.
First rockauto took 7 days inc weekend.
Second rockauto and FCP order 8 days.
Can’t complain.

Cheers, he's my go too man for local supplies.
Shame about the UK Cortina club. Parts were dirt cheap to members even with exchange rates and postage and they put profits back into tooling and reproducing new lines.

I've had no other dramas with other suppliers using Fedex, just that one, I think it was just codeword for 'We can't be **** ed sending it.

Think it will be at least 3 weeks or so, I sent a card from Edinburgh on the 8th April to Brisbane and its not arrived yet. Just normal delivery, not tracked or anything.

Stumbled upon a third party tracker, it offers different delivery timeframes based on recent similar carriage.

https://parcelsapp.com/en

In my case, a package suggested by Fleabay to arrive by the 25th of June was flagged as follows:
Quote:
Estimated date of arrival at the post office

14 Jun 2021 - 20 Jun 2021, 8 - 14 days remaining

The forecast is not 100% certain, and is based on 56 packages delivered in the last 60 days

Latest experience, Fleabay Global Shipping - they used Pitney Bowes (of course) who handballed it to DHL Express.

6:45AM 3rd June to 10:22AM 11th June. Quite quick!

I buy a surprising number of things from the UK.
Having people that can read and write English probably helps. I think the ECC has also made them very competitive, and they are usually incredibly helpful.

Ordered something (with free postage so presumably cheapest rate) on the 1st June, and received it today 17th.
But tracking shows it left UK on the 3rd.

Freight inside Australia sucks.

Recently I sent two parcels that were both picked up at the same time, both by air freight.

One to Taiwan, one to regional SE QLD.

Melbourne to Taiwan which went from here to Singapore, to Hong Kong then into Taiwan faster than Melbourne to like 200KM out of Brisbane, both by air freight.

Must have gone by plane to Brisbane, then 2.8L naturally aspirated diesel Hilux Brisbane to regional SE QLD.

It’s been good to see the lethargy towards small overseas sales which seemed to creep in as a casualty of Brexit, has significantly scaled back.

Shortly to try ordering stuff from France (NOS lock set for the daily); that will be an interesting comparison.

Ten calendar days, metropolitan France to Sydney. Can’t knock that speed of airmail. By contrast, six days across town with Express Post…

The UK wants our business it can be a challenging to choose USA or UK i have found that America will give one set price for postage which is more that my parts cost but England same parts + postage are cheaper, I cant believe they delivered within 7 DAYS with now i have trust with company DHL and to me England still retains the Tradition of craftsman and trades i.e they still are building New classic Mini's shells ,spinning hub caps, the vehicle industry is alive and thriving. From England to Australia

I was searching for a while to find standard main engine bearing caps for my 124 Sport Fiat. Heaps of places in Australia were selling the undersized bearings but not the standard size. I expanded my search to overseas and found a guy in Greece of all places selling a brand new set for US$40. I asked if he would ship to Australia and what cost would be. Shipping was US$18.50.
Ended up costing me just over $80 Australian and received it in just over 2 weeks. Absolutely wrapped.

I’ve bought quite a lot of bearings out of Latvia and Lithuania. Both countries are good to deal with in English, I think they’re starting to grow away from the Russian era.

Anyone have feedback on the Polish postal service?

Looking at trying to screw down a seller wanting $55 carriage fee for a 250g item in a Jiffy bag when Poczta Polska is only equal to $22 with receipted delivery.

Has USPS gone crazy with postal prices, or is their configurator broken?

I’m seeing $119-odd for a 400g parcel 10x6x2 inches.
