i think the common place is at the base of the passenger seat? not sure. stil trying to decided if i wanna get one for mine but thinking wth never know when you might even pull up at a crash and will be able to save a life

wasn't there someone on the forums selling mounting brackets for the front passenger seat a while ago?

can't remember who it was, or if there were limited numbers. but i think they mounted them to the seat rails and it sat just under the front of the seat...

or i could be totally wrong..

Yep! I picked up one, they were steel brackets that mounted to the seat base of B series. A lot of people elect to have extinguishers in the boot, but they're best nice and accesible in the cabin.

It's a budget supermarket like Coles, but they carry 'no name' foreign brands

Bought one ages ago from Supercheap for $15.
Used it about 6 months ago when i witnessed an accident and car caught fire ... luckily only a small one ... but it came in handy.

This reminds me that i need to get another one to put back in the ute again.

I never used to carry an extingisher since i attended an accident ,where a local girl was trapped in a buring car, and no one had an extingisher. we got her out but idealy it would have been better to have put the fire out and leave her in the car, as she was badly hurt (spinal?). we got her out an the car burnt in five minutes, that was about 20minute before the fireies got there, it was all very dramatic, i drove to work and then shock for me set in, i was sent to get aids blood tests,cause i cut my hands dueing the resue and her blood mixed with mine. the tests were clear.
i have a 1kg extingisher stuffed under my passenger seat.

Extinguishers with plastic mounting brackets are NOT legal or safe to use in a car.

The funny thing is Ford sells Motorcraft branded extinguishers, and they come with a plastic bracket

makes you wonder some times.

I bought one and used an old Metal bracket to mount it in the boot of the car, was thinking about a second one mounted to the seat rails of the front seat.

Nice price for a small extinguisher; but I have seen a car on fire under the bonnet, and 3 extinguishers couldn't put it out, so these are for peace of mind more than any practical fire fighting.

I think it’s a good idea to have an extinguisher in your car (I have one in all 3 of our cars)

But don’t for a second think you’ll be able tackle a fully involved car, these things are good if you catch it the moment the fire starts, and they make a hell of a mess. (there not much more than a compressed bucket of bi-carb soda)

I personally like them in the cabin, because its easy to access in said emergency, and typically when there’s a fire people panic and I will bet they would forget they have one in the boot but in the cabin its looking at them all the time, the other reason I like them in the cabin is if your trapped in the vehicle after an MVA and your windows wont wind down (no power no winding windows in electric window cars) this extinguisher is a great device to smash the widow with the thing.

All said and done don’t be hero’s if it’s not safe to extinguish let it burn it’s only a car and just call these guys

this is true that they are not a solution for most fires etc. but the way i look at it is if it can give me those few seconds to get someone out of a burning car and save a life money well spent

yep completely agree. I have seen cars go up in flames really quickly and ive also seen very small electrical fires that were put out easy

I say for the $13 its worthwhile. Ide rather have the feeling if my car went up in flames that I had the extinguisher there and tried my best to put it out rather then thinking damn if I had an extinguisher I MAY have been able to save the car.

I agree that it is a good idea to have one handy but just be mindful that you only have about 10 seconds use with the smaller extinguishers.

They are not so much of a problem in a car as if you are using the extinguisher chances are you are already out of the vehicle.

The problems arise when people try and stay to fight a fire in a house with these small extinguishers when they really should be evacuating.

Supercheap auto have one on special at the moment for about $20 reduced from around $34 I think. Comes with a much better 'STEEL' bracket and a 6 year warranty, not 1 year. I think I would rather spent $7 more.
