Well go out and Buy one, Roddy. They are still on sale in car dealerships.

Of course there is also Unique commodores, and a Chrysler 300c that's pretty similar in spec on sale here.

If you travel to China and Korea they have some large RWD sedans uniquely on sale there too, with V8's even.

G'day...I've got an FG XR6...Happy with that...and an AUll for good measure...The uniqueness is that the mighty Falcon is unique to OZ..There'd be 200 plus countries who can't have it..To illustrate that point watch this..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEJzrKHbaAQ If you read the comments , please do , see how many of our US Ford fans are envious of our car...It's very unique and desired to them especially..Cheers Rod..

So you want Ford to keep making Falcons, you just don't want to buy one?

This is why they're shutting down. Not enough people actually want to put down the cash.

...G'day...What are you on about ? Firstly I didn't say anywhere about Falcon continuing on in this thread. That not happening has been a certainty since 2013..Nothing to do with this topic .I should know I started it...What I said was how torturous it was that not too many others around the world will ever know about our Falcon but at least in the US...the Chevvy SS was attempted through the Commodore..Export was never going to happen with Falcon but this doesn't detract from the car and doesn't detract from the overwhelming positive comments our Falcon gets from those who can't ever own one..Re the 'don't want to buy one '..I have had a few and currently own two and if I could remotely afford an FGX I would..Low income procludes that but I do have a first reg 2009 FG XR6..and my old AU ll ..Not every body can swap cars just like that..Read the thread properly next time before you reply..Please do that at least.. Cheers Rod..

Sorry Rod, it sure read like another thread about the end of the Falcon. After all, that's the biggest reason the yanks will never get a look at it.

I believe they did look at exporting LHD Falcons, but ended up pulling the funding on it. And I saw a journo's photo of a G6E in a Ford carpark in the USA, so I'm guessing it was considered.

In the end, I can't imagine most Americans would think it's anything special. The Chevy SS while driving well has been likened to a hire car, and you can bet it would be the same for the Falcon (or they might just think it's a Taurus).

My nephew just got a BF XT, and my god, the interior is awful. Looks like something from the early 90s. It's not impressing anyone. Even the luxury G6E is 10-15 years behind every other car on the market when it comes to what makes it luxury. Heck. There's base model hatches with more.

Don't think the engine will impress the yanks either. A base model V6 Challenger has more power.

As for YouTube comments, well, lots of people comment on videos of a range of different cars they will never drive. Just like aussies, they still wouldn't buy the car.

I have to admit, as much as I do like my Falcon, if I had the range of options available in the USA, it wouldn't even get considered.

In the off-chance he gets elected and the GOP isn't relegated to the wilderness I will be very surprised if he survives (literally) the first year. He'll also find out the hard way there's more to being President than churning out stupid catch phrases...he'll have to learn how to govern.

The rest of the world either didn't give a crap about Falcon or Commodore or they didn't know about it (most would be the former though). So I don't see how (or why) a non-event could be torturing you.

G'day ..Fair enough..I take your points but I'm still a bit disappointed (USA) that the home of Falcon and also Mustang never really got a chance to see what we did with it..It's a big if but IF the demographic hadn't changed so much that had seen the demise of big family cars I wonder where Falcon might have gone to by now. I agree that the interior /gadgets/ development has left it a long way behind . Just the same there will always be a soft spot for the heyday of a big rear wheel drive straight six or V8 that had a certain attitude as we see the plethora of hybrids , small turbo ecoboosts , big and little SUV's and crossovers flood the market..Cheers Rod..

..Beats me why some people don't give a rats about our car industry demise and that includes GMH and Toyota too..I read an article just a few days ago online that suggested strongly that the 1984 Button Car Plan was the catalyst for Australia losing our car manufacturing about three decades later..Free Trade Agreements , pandering to Asia constantly and greed has led to this it seems...Of course it's more complicated than that but our car individuality is ending and so is other industries that once upon a time we used to be proud of..You are entitled, Loud Noises , to your opinion...So am I..Cheers Rod..

And of course Hillary is easily confused with Mother Theresa.

I think the point you may be missing is the average American is tired of the political elite in this country that are only worried about themselves and image over substance. Trump is an outsider, and that is why some people are drawn to him. Sanders, not exactly and outsider who is a self proclaimed socialist and platform was based on free things for all, was popular for similar reasons. However, he needed to call out his opponent on obvious years of corruption, pay for play etc.

To get back to the thread at large, as Joe Biden said during the last election Osama Bin Laden is Dead and GM is Alive. (that of course is not spiking the football as the Potus said was bad to do) and of course GM went and built all new facilities in China to build Buicks and Cadillacs there and ship them back to the US. So that government money, ie taxpayer funds, did not bouy GM producing cars here in the US.

I think that even if the Australian government did get involved in keeping the manufacturing there, I do not think there are any bureaucrats in your government or ours that have the slightest idea or passion how to save any industry in either nation to have a real effect. Its about party and the next election. Kick the can.

The US has had BMW, Nissan, Toyota build plants here and have produced many cars. Of course the difference here is the raw materials are all readily available to produce cars.

I wish it was easy as buy local.

I wrote an article to have published in the Falcon Club of America newletter about the end of Falcon and Ford production in Australia. I did kind of ask the question what would have happened if the Mustang was not released and the Falcon continued to be produced, especially past 70 1/2.

I concluded that some of the Falcons you had in Oz may have been a glimpse into what the Falcon did not continue as here. Granted the Falcon Sprint was not exactly a Boss Mustang, but it was the beginning point of what they could have been, however the lack luster sales of the Sprint here and the advent of the Mustang changed History. I am not even sure the Torino would have made the scene, had the Falcon not been displaced by the Stang. The Torino may have been just the Fairlane.

I know the history of the Falcon in Oz has had good times and bad, good designs and head scratchers, good performers and well sub standard performers.

You kept the name alive for over 50 years and turned it from a US Falcon to one that was your own. I like the story of the first one, how it was inadequate for the Australian needs, and how it was redesigned with intent to meet the grade. It actually was almost discontinued as a name plate before the 65s came out. Sure the XYs and XW GTHO's became legend, and well, the hysteria killing the XAGTHO project, and finally ending in the XC Cobras was a special trip. Not to mention the Goss Specials, and well the rebranding of the GS to replace the evil GT's.

And sure, the XD's were well different. I still would like a good XF, spartan as they may be. The return of the Windsors and the XR8s and XR6s to breathe life back into the brand, the BA to put things back on track.

Yes the Falcon had its good and bad over the years. Frankly I thought performance was dead in the US in the 80s. The 90s wasn't much better, but now we have the like of the Cobra Mustangs, Hellcat Challengers, Chevy Camaros pushing unreal horsepower numbers. But the Falcons came around with performance from Tickford, then finally with in house and the Modulars and FPV's.

Nothing will replace them. Sure the Focus are pretty good vehicles from personal experience, and the ST and RS look to be pretty hot little cars.
But in 50 years I doubt anyone will be reminisce about them. Supercars are not exactly Moffat and Bond man handling 2000 lb cars around Mt Panorama now is it?
