speeding was a way of life back in the 70's early 80's etc
slap on the wrist and sent on your way

these days your a menace and jailed for the ***** most drivers were probably doing back in the day etc these young drivers ae now OLD drivers and are all into bagging the new generation etc its not safe or condoned to be speeding but labelling a group for a small % of drivers is plainly BS imho

Based on peoples reactions here maybe I should limit my testing of my cars capabilities, especially considering ORSM T's "Insane" comment about that speed.

But anyway yes, L Platers and even fresh P Platers would either have to be suicidal, dumb, or both to want to do those speeds... hell when I was fresh I was too scared to do anything higher than 120!

Also 20-30 years ago ... the amount of cars on the road and the population was bugger-all compared to current day ... so many more people on the roads now.

Back in the "olden days" roads were nowhere near congested is they are now ... and they weren't even as wide.

learnt to drive at 8

drove my first truck (manual :P ) at 12-13 yrs old

driven a 18 wheeler at 16-17 for a very short distance as this WAS a public back road (dead, as it was early morning etc) BP fuel rig ;) (almost 13 yrs ago)

driven cars since 8 (bush and paddocks etc)

on my learners whilst in the country drove mostly dirt roads to work etc

and have driven the above 220kmh and felt no different then at 110kmh
only ppl whom have done this would know but it does require alot more focusing etc

wont and dont condone it but some ppl shouldnt be at them speeds and some just do it i would NOT recommend a new learner with 0 road experience to be doing it etc EVER EVER EVER and to remain under the FULL instructions of a SENSIBLE RESPONSIBLE EXPERIENCED DRIVER whom has held their licence for a long period of time..

Some people shouldn't be allowed to drive full stop. Many slip through the cracks, that is our licencing system. I could do the tests drunk, stoned, and in a coma, it's that easy.

Hee hee ... doubt it.

I was thinking more along the lines of

Bugatti Veyron - 401km/h
Jun Akira Supra - 404km/h
Jun Bonneville Z32 Fairlady Z - 414km/h

And I can safely say I haven't exceeded the speed limit by as much as you mention ... I do value my life.
He was in QLD, no difference for learners.

Would you do 200km/h in NT where it is legal (for the moment)? Would you do it down conrod on a track day? Are you worried because it is illegal in NSW or because you think you would be unsafe?
If you are incapable of controlling a vehicle at that speed then you are very wise not to do it.
But then maybe others are capable, we are not all equal.......

wont even come close to 12 months,he wasnt in a chase etc traffic would of been light to none
wasn't involved in a crash etc

his looking at huge fines disqualified for 6months to 2 years and if he has a history he might get a few months in jail

225KMH in a chase would get you jail time ;) (just a example)

i guess i could have said a well enough built :P think of it, a supra, not sure about that one, is usually a 2.5 litre twin turbo, now imagine a 4.0 litre falcon with twin or one really big turbo on it...i'm sure you would definitely get the power needed, it's a matter of getting it to the ground...

It is divided by a 50 metre nature strip and is one of the best roads in QLD.

193km/h is fast but I and many many others have gone much faster on roads that are not as good and it was completely legal. (Barkly, Stuart, Arnham etc in NT and QLD raceway in QLD).

He holds a learners permit, we have no idea of his driving skillset. When Craig Lowndes first got his learners he was quite capable of controlling a car at that speed. EVERYONE has to get a learners before doing their test regardless of capability.

Yes what he did was illegal but all we know is where and what time. Was he in a F6 or a Porsche which is perfectly safe at those speeds? Was he a very good driver. Was he hopeless bogan in a fully sik VL?

Too many immediately jump on the "you idiot" band wagon without all the facts. This is partially the reason for stupid speed limits and other restrictions that cause us grief on the road.

Ban him for 10 years, what a great idea? He didn't kill or hurt anyone, he just did what you me and bloody near everyone else has done somewhere or other some time in our lives. Lets make him the example so we can all point an "tut tut" while we secretly do it ourselves.

Hands up all those who have NEVER exceed the limit by 87km/h (in is a 110 zone). I have and most people I know have but usually people do it way out in the bush in secluded areas on crappier roads where it is less likely to be caught but more dangerous.

How about those who have not done 45km/h over the limit.
Or sat on the speed limit is the pouring rain with 200m visibility, legal but stupid....

God save us from the wowsers..........
Mate you just saved me from writing a monster post, perfectly said..

I will openly admit that i have done more then 87km over the limit on a open stretch of highway, 4 lanes with a barried between me and oncoming traffic, sure its not anything to brag about but my car handles well, has monster breaks and it was in the wee hours of the morning when i was in the car ALONE and not anther car in sight. I don't consider myself to be the next craig lowndes, but i have done several defensive driving courses and feel i can control a car and more importantly identify possible hazards..

The only thing that shits me about the article is that he did those sorts of speeds with 2 teen girls in the car, chances are he was showing off and they were scared outta their minds, and sadly probably in a car thats not capable of much more the 110..

I dunno about anyone else but i'd much prefer to die in a single car accident by myself while misbehaving instead of taking out a friend, partner, my kids or someone else, or in his case two young chicks....

I don't condone speeding etc, and 99% of the time i drive like a granny. But there is such a thing as "safe" speeding..

At that speed I can guarentee it wasn't a stock AUII Futura. That stage of the road is very close to here. Staying under 120km/h is hard...its so big and wide and flat.

It's a great stretch of road to get some speed up but that doesn't make it right- one of those cases where it's funny because no-one got hurt. Just the aussie way to me- getting busted following your mate, that's pretty funny. Well, I reckon it is. Probably funny because they're so dumb.
