It does stand for pre-production but the P cars were also used as press vehicles etc.

If I remember right, the prototype BA GT/P in blue that was at the motorshow had a different hump in the bonnet. The end of the hump was shorter and steeper from the front edge and less smoother than that came out in the production vehicles. I also remember that the first posters of the GT also had the different bonnet. I recall that caused a reaction from the crowd and caused Ford to go back and change the design before production started. I am sure I have a photo of it that I'll try and dig out.

200k for a BA GT... Umm.. No thanks... even if it is P001.

For 200k I would have bought a VF GTSR (non W1) and Sprint 6 and put the change towards fuel and rego...

Yep that's the one!!

I would suggest that vehicle is a prototype and be worth more than the one below. That's if it still exists?

Not sure.

Looks like it might be on an XR8 too rather than a GT

From memory, the story was the earlier version of the bonnet bulge shown in the pictures above was less aerodynamic. This was something that affected its ability in V8 Supercars. I think that was the story.

I actually prefer the pre-production bonnet. Those pre-production FPV GT and Pursuit images also lack the tri-slot splitter with accent colour.

ole mate with his manwell GTF will smile when he sees those Roddy,be interesting to look back on threads such as these in 20 years or so as just like back in the day when i was getting about in my XYGS looking at the blokes XA coupe from down the road with disdain i nor anyone else ive met between then and know has a crystal ball etc etc,the only thing different from the past to the future is there are no more GT Falcons no matter what year they were built nor the make-up of there bumpers blah blah but there are and will always be people with $....simple really.

These are the shots from the 2002 Sydney Motor Show. No sure if they were working prototypes or clay models (sometimes hard to tell). I think the ones with the blacked out glass are clay and the XR8 is a real car, possible the same one in the photo GreenNV posted? But they all have the proto bonnet.. Wonder what happened to these cars/clays?

There was a Phantom XR8 with the original bulge getting around Geelong years ago, so some were built with these bonnets.

Possibly, it wasn’t the cleanest car from memory so if it was it didn’t stay looking like a show car for long haha!

Wish they had tested and timed a bit longer ie until the mixer shaft in the heater had snapped and the hood lining had fallen down, would have saved thousands of blokes incl of myself thousands
