A good way to learn the friction point is to be pointed up on the slightest incline, and try to keep the car in the same position by constantly adjusting the accelerator and clutch, no brakes at all (cept for the handbrake for starting off). Don't do it for more than 3 mins at a time because its get really hot, good way to wear out your clutch.

Now Josh......thats a load of crock LOL.....so your trying to tell me that with the clutch fully in and i put it in reverse that its my fault that it gets a little Crunch...thats like the 3rd time that its happened.......and if thats all you got to go on lol....pffft you know nothing...hehehehehe

It's not your fault. With a lack of synchros in the Fiestas reverse gear, its easy to do unless you pump the clutch a couple times before engaging R. But who has the time to do all that?

Ive had a little crunch in the fiesta once or twice when i was getting into reverse.. the car wasnt even moving at all. I noticed sometimes it didnt like to go all the way into reverse and you had to try it again.

If at that time you removed foot from clutch it made a weird crunchy noise. I learnt to be carefull after the second time. Never happened again

same thing happens to me....trying to put in reverse some times it just doesnt grap.....

try sticking it in 5th before reverse, seems to line up the synchros.

Manual is easy to learn.... the engine will tell you when to change gears. So listen to it !
Taking off is easy, as long as you remember to balance the revs with the clutch to avoid stalling or bunny hopping.
As someone else said earlier, don't worry about smoothness now, that comes with experience and refinement. Just concentrate on the basics.

The rev limiter in the fiesta feels like your just ran into a bunch of pillows.

I have felt the limiter in other cars and they are usually quite harsh in comparison.

I've been in a Lotus Exige Cup 240R :


On topic - I picked up my Fiesta in Manual on a Saturday. On wednesday I went to re-sit my red P exam. Passed with flying colours. Just, you need to really learn that friction point. Oh, and also trust yourself.

It isn't that hard. After 28 years of driving Automatic, my mother learnt on my Renault Clio! And trust me, it is EXTREMELY hard to get the clutch right :togo:

The Exige S has the same 141kW (192 PS and/or 189bhp) 1.8 n/a 4cyl as the rest of them. The yellow one is an Exige 240R. With 240 PS (that's 237bhp or 177kW), its supercharged, has more power, more torque... 0-100km/h in less then 4 seconds. It gives the Elise/Exige what it was missing out on the most, straight line grunt.

Yea, you forgot to also mention there are 'stage' upgrades too.

Only about 4 or 5 240R Cups in Australia...
