Give me a car and I'll manage to put a chip in the windscreen in the first week, never fails.
The EB needs one new seat belt and a windscreen but nothing really that really stands out. The Police have been over it from the outside and couldn't pick anything on it. :hihi: Mk I Esky, probably needs a new windscreen, I don't think I've chipped that one yet!! The indicators like to turn themselves off sometimes so you have to hold them on, and patch up a little bit of rust on the firewall (common problem). That's about it, not bad for a 32 year old car. _2:

I had Bald tyres for a while on the EF, and brake discs with a lip so wide you could balance a can of beer on it with metal on metal grinding noises from brake pads that were 20,000 kays overdue......
I could'nt afford it any sooner..... |

Hmmmm I guess mine could be a yes reading over everyone elses bits and pieces. I had an XF that had a cannarie once or twice.
First one was for 15mtr rule due to a scoop on the bonnet, Musical air horns and deleated polution gear. Then the second one was for it being too low, musical airhorns and sloppy stearing. They were semi bullshit. I took the base off the scoop, it was never to low, had an epa test done (not by choice) and it was running 3 time cleaner than strait gas or anything they had ever tested......

the main reason i asked this question(my old ute has/was/is been unroadworthy for at least a year, rust, cracked lenses, handbrake hardly working and oil leaks)
is : i have recently bought a few bombs. one a VK that had the front pads down to metal and they were so bad they were self machining the ridge off the disc,(this was the main issue) another an EA has tyres that are scrubbed out at the front and showing canvas on the rear, also has worn tie rods and shocks totalled. and a Valiant coupe with chips in the windscreen front tyres worn uneven, inner tie rods worn, demister fan not working and seat belts bodgy also has wheels fitted with centre spigot size too large so wheel nuts are the only thing supporting wheels. my nice XF had gas tank out of date and idler arm stuffed as well as four scrubbed tyres(due to wheel align) basically, someone has obviously driven these cars in the state they are in fo r quite some time, i personally do get around to fixing things usually within a month. brakes are MEGA imprortant to me though and fixed imediately. if the car is smokey i like to fix this quicky also, but in the case of my old ute it used/leaked 1 litre of oil a week but never blew smoke. hence not fixed. |

Well ashmeably yes, once I was trading an old Magna clunka and I drove to Sydney 400k and back,I knew the tyres were getting baldish and I hadn't checked them and when I got home I looked and two rears were showing the steel belts. The next weekend I still drove it to Sydney only a lot slower which is where it stayed at the dealer.

My old camry had bald wheel s at one point. I couldnt afford to replace them. After getting home from willowbank one time, I found the steel belt showing on one of the tyres. I saved up and bought some new ones.

Hmm I drove my old ute around for 6 months without rego, without third party and without a RWC. Bad tyres, loose battery, major rust in five places, bad brake lines, multiple failing suspension bushes the list goes on. Only got caught twice...second time I wasn't even driving it!

Mine was not on the list. I work 6-7 days a week, 8-12hour days, so time is the issue for me. I have all new parts at home to fix them though. My problem is i don't like other people working on my cars and want to do it myself. The XF has no rear vision mirror, and no glass in the left side mirror. The heater is bypassed as the heatercore started leaking a few weeks ago. Ive got a new idler arm, new pitman arm, new water pump, new fan and new fuel pump to put on the XF. Hope to do in the next few weeks. The XY again has no heater. Looks neater without it. I need to adjust the handbrake also, otherwise it's all good except maybe abit too load. Also the brakes arn't real crash hot.

Drove the car to work unregistered once - purely by accident. Realised and jumped onto netbank and payed up once i got to work.
Last set of tyres were peeling by the time i got the car to the tyre joint - but only because they were given a hearty send off. Drove to sprint auto and back with a failed break light switch - flicking the parkers on every time i pressed the pedal. Went down to the shops with a cracked windscreen but the guy was already on his way to replace the thing. My engine's probably defectable but not really a problem here in SA *touchwood*.

Im suprised by the amount of people who drive with bald tyres and no brakes.... Unbelievable... My tyres are always replaced once they get down to the markers, If i couldn't afford to replace them then I wouldn't bother having the car in the first place, as for brakes well my cars only do 40,000 kays before i **** em off so brakes aren't really an issue...
The only time any of my cars have been un roadworthy was a windscreen crack which was fixed 2 days after it happened. Whats the go with stone chips in the windscreen, as really tiny ones, are you classed as being unroadworthy for them?? Im talking about ones that are like a stone chip in paint, theres no cracks etc just a little chip in the screen? My belief is if you can't keep it in a roadworthy state, either replace it with a new one or get off the road... :ticking: |
