Seems confusing with all the options. They should ask the question more simply for us Australians to understand.

Q) Were you born with a dick?

Do you have both nuts, like only one left... but also one right?

Or a single nut? Wouldn't it no longer be a left nut but now be a centre nut? Or does it still hang to the left?

In answer to your question, it makes you:

The exact opposite of my point; rather, it is the larger portion of the population who grumble about being just male or female.

You're born male, female, or some form of intersex. Insisting you are a different gender to what your genetics determine you to be is an illness. It is medically defined as a disorder.

Why do we need to provide validation for a tiny fraction of the population? Yes, it sucks to be them, but it sucks to be a lot of people for a variety of different reasons,

Do we give schizophrenics multiple census forms, one for themselves and a few for their imaginary friends? People with MPD might want a few extras too.
Refusing to look outside of biased standpoint because it agrees with the dominant mainstream society, yes, can be interpreted as bigotry. I am not talking about agreeing with me, its about challenging what we know or believe. Look at social Darwinism in the 1800's of Australia; it was thought to be so right, but it was so wrong.

We are talking about identity, and allowing people to have their say.

So what if we validate minority groups. The larger dominant mainstream culture has nothing to lose by providing that point of validation. I mean "oh no, we validated someone's identity which is out of the norm". How does that impact anyone.

The point about oppression is that it removes power from one group and gives it to another. This leads to structural oppression; leading to dominant social constructions.

In all seriousness, so-called "tolerance" and "acceptance" HAS gone too far, especially when it comes to bona fide Mental Illness.
I'm not suggesting we return to 100 years ago, when people the least bit different were classified as deviant and thrown in Asylums to be cured. But we have swung so far the other way, that we now "accept" people instead of getting them help.

True Story: There was a guy at work who was going through some tough times. He was always what you might call "highly strung," his teenage son was struggling ADHD, etc. Then his wife left him, told him he was loser and the cause of all her unhappiness (the usual.)
Next day he comes to work in his wife's clothes.

Shortly thereafter to jetted off to Thailand to have his genitals removed.

Now I didn't actually work with this person, they weren't a friend or even a close colleague. But I still couldn't help thinking that what he needed was psychiatric help and counselling, not "acceptance" of his bizarre choices.

Because statistically, it is the majority that determine what is normal. A tiny fraction of the population that identify as a gender they were not born with is by definition aberrant/abnormal.

Quote:

No, its simply not accepting your definition of what is or isnt normal.

Quote:

No, we're talking about mental/neurological illness. There are illnesses that are psychological in basis that can be managed via counselling, etc. There are illnesses that are hard-wired and cannot be medicated away (eg. autism, some types of gender identity disorder, etc). But they are illnesses and should be described as so. There is nothing *normal* about identifying as a gender you were not born with biologically, and its ridiculous to be teaching kids that it is. Medically, we should be aiming for a way in which this can be treated.

I guess you could argue that castrated males (eunuchs) should be in a different category altogether and I'm not joking about this because apparently there are still millions of "hijras" in South East Asia. These are males that were castrated at a young age in a ritual. It is usually against their will or they would have no real understanding of what they are giving up due to their young age at the time of castration.

They have no access to hormone treatment and over time they become what was referred to in the Kama Sutra as "triteeyaprakrti"(the third sex).

In fact there is a category of singing based off this that is known as "castrato" and these individuals are prized in certain cultures for their unique, child-like singing quality. It used to be a big thing in European culture too, both in classical music and Opera.

So if someone says a bigoted thing they're not a bigot?

The thirty-three options aside, somebody born one gender but is convinced they're born in the wrong body and do a whole range of things to change their gender, be it hormone therapy, sex change operation, or other approaches... too bad for them, they're Male/Female forever due to their birth status?

Going by that logic all married women who take their husbands' name should retain their maiden name, because it's not the name they were born with.

All women who have suffered mastectomies due to breast cancer should not bother with reconstructive surgery because they're not "real t1ttays"

I should stick to buying Falcons, because they're what I always drove up until this year.

If I read this right, I'm not a male anymore I'm Cis Male

I'm really not trying to offend any one here as I can't even begin to understand what a person with a a gender issue is going thought but **** me that seems like a lot of over lapping bull ****

So now a Man (A person born as a male, and who identifies as a male) isn't a man or male they're a Cis Male (Cis is short for cisgender. A cisgender male is a male who identifies as a man)

So a

How is that different from a

Cis Male: Cis is short for cisgender. A cisgender male is a male who identifies as a man.
Good point. If this isn't an option in the census, I demand action and an apology.

Gender and sex are often used interchangeably probably because they are more often than not the same but the meanings are different which is quite often overlooked.

It has no effect on my life and the majority of people but may help others to feel included.

100% correct, if you are born with block and tackle you are a MAN or male of your species, you are not supposed to change that and mess with nature, it's not like we all go around deciding what sex we would like to be.

We are born what we are, I would love to be a few inches taller and be a professional basketball player, but I am not, so that's how I have to live my life.

I should stick to buying Falcons, because they're what I always drove up until this year.
Why?? What has changing you name got to do with mutilating your body and private parts?? Ever heard the expression of a straw man argument??
