Model: 2012 Ford Focus Titanium
Generation: LW Type: 2.0 GDI PowerShift Driving style: 70% City : 30% Freeway Fuel Consumption: 9.3 L / 100km Total KM's on the clock: 150km Probably not the best representation of the fuel consumption, given it has hardly been driven (only 150km on the clock), though she’s an absolute cracker of a car so far

Thought I would add the info from my other thread. Will be doing the same trip several times over the course of the following month under varying conditions so I will add to this thread to see any differences.

Could be just coincidence but I had the car lowered on Kings SL's and just had the best fuel economy reading yet. Same fuel, same style of driving, and 6.86 L/100 - worked out the old fashioned way not the on board computer figure I have 18,500 k's on it now and even after the 15,000 k service the economy hadn't changed so........ |

Model: 2010 Focus TDCI
Generation: LV Type: 2.0 PowerShift Driving style: 20% City : 80% Freeway, 320km. Fuel Consumption: 5.8 L / 100km Total KM's on the clock: 35,000 km AVG speed:75km/h Conditions: 2 occupants, fully loaded with 150kg tools, fully loaded roof racks, probably another 80kg. So, a 1L per 100 increase in consumption compared to the last trip posted above. Drove the car back home: Driving style: 20% City : 80% Freeway, 320km. Fuel Consumption: 5.0 L / 100km Total KM's on the clock: 35,500 km AVG speed:82km/h Conditions: 2 occupants, light load, empty roof racks. .2L per 100 increase. Not bad, thought the roof racks would drag more. They are the fancy 'Whispbar' ones however. On the Festiva, you could really feel the resistance of the older box style roof racks on the freeway. Did the same trip again, but did not reset the counters as the conditions were similar across the duration of the trip. Driving style: 25% City : 75% Freeway, 660km. Fuel Consumption: 5.2 L / 100km Total KM's on the clock: 36,500 km AVG speed:74km/h Conditions: 2 occupants, light load, empty roof racks. Pretty consistent figures. Impresseive if you ask me

So, my first post on this forum was regarding high fuel consumption. 10 Months later I can say there is definitely something wrong with my car!!
Fuel consumption went good after removing restrictive air box, but soon after installing my exhaust I got a huge loss in torque. A while later car had trouble starting and ran really rough at low revs. Cleared up a bit, but then fuel consumption went terrible. Got a OBD Scan tool today, and fuel trim is +33%. Driving style: 25% City : 75% Urban Fuel Consumption: 13 L / 100km Total KM's on the clock: ~ 86,500 km One tank does ~ 400km (All low traffic Urban driving). Model: 2012 Ford Focus Sport - manual
Mix of town/highway driving - probably 40/60% Fuel Consumption: 7.3 L / 100km Total KM's on the clock: 590km Average speed 45kph Just about finished the first tank of fuel and pretty happy with the economy so far. Not sure what fuel was in the first tank, but I am going to put some premium in it today to see how it goes. |

Details below are taken from an online website - Excessive fuel consumption most likely cause is due to an external sensor: Things to check are: 1. Coolant Temperature Sensor If the coolant temperature sensor connections are corroded, or the sensor is defective, the ECU will believe that the engine temperature is lower than normal and will increase enrichment. May not necessarily error code. 2. Throttle Position Sensor Is the TPS working correctly ? 3. Oxygen Sensors Are the oxygen sensors operating correctly ? A defective oxygen sensor will cause excessive fuel consumption...a slow sensor will not necessarily set a code. This is one of the most common causes of excessive fuel consumption. 4. Fuel Pressure regulator Check the operation of the fuel pressure regulator....ensure that it is receiving vacuum...sometimes the solenoid controlling vacuum fails, resulting in richer mixtures during light load. 5. Fuel leak (even minor) Check all hoses for any seapage and tighten all hose clamps. Hope you get it sorted soon |

Looks like I need to go to a Ford Servo to get the part, can't seem to source it online :S Figured I'd just knock down the list - my engine temp on the Dash has seem to be 'laggy' getting to mid range (even after 30 mins driving sometimes) when it use to always get to mid range within 10 minutes tops. => Maybe should move this to another post, as seems like diff topic to thread? |

I would say that is probably the one, but before you start replacing stuff at random I would recommend you take the car in to Ford or a good diagnostics place, and get it checked out properly, there are several sensors alone which can obviously cause problems such as excessive fuel consumption and there's no point replacing one if it turns out to be another or something different entirely. You could end up paying out a lot of money unnecessarily on parts that are OK and still be stuck with the same problem. :(

Went to clark rubber, got a proper 12mm air/water hose, made sure all the connections were tight and hose wasn't restrictive (last hose was 1m, now it's 50cm), and i'm down to ~ 10.2/100km with lead foot.

If you meant thermostat, yes, you can just get one from Ford, they're not expensive from memory. The job is a PITA but you will save on labour. Things to have: - Coolant - Multigrip pliers to get the plastic hose clamps off the coolant hoses, or a hose clamp removal tool is even better: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FLEXIBLE-...item2eb76fe83e - 1/4 drive tools: there isn't much space in the front of the engine bay - Draw / take a photo of the accessory drive belt pathway as this will fall off when removing the drive belt tensioner. Perhaps you should start a new thread, we are getting off topic here. |

Towed a 1/2 empty 5x7 trailer (250kg) first half of trip then returned fully loaded, prob 600kg on the way back. Approx a 2-2.5L per 100 penalty for towing. Knowing my dads maintenance regime the berrings are probably cooked as well....

Just returned from a short holiday, covering 895km with 2.25 people onboard (.25 was a 4yo) and some luggage that probably added another .25 person for about half the time.
Overall consumption 7.1km/100km. Not sure of average speed because I forgot to reset it, but it started at about 38km/h and ended at 65km/h. This is a petrol 4 speed auto.
