If it drives you nuts you're just giving him more ammo to fire with. I've always found with people like this is to let them carry on with their B.S, and let it go through one ear, and out the other.

It's sometimes hard to resist to bite back, but if you can manage you'll be quite surprised how much you wont care what they have to say.

They seem to be gaining respect in the US again, but I guess that happens when you don't need bail out money from the government.

i think the problem is as said, you soon know if you are talking to some one who appreciates motor vehicles in a general or who is just nope these are better than anything else ( it happens with all brands ), then its up to you to choose if you want to keep the discussion going, when i realise that i am talking to that type of person i just tell them that its the nut behind the wheel, i had a few go and try to search for it.

In Australia, 90% of new vehicle buyers purchase vehicles other than Ford.

Ford is not even on a lot of buyer's radars, that should ring alarm bells but it doesn't.
You'd think that a volume car maker like Ford would be seeking info on why sales are so poor....

And then actually do something about it.

Lets be careful with that statement. What is the percentage of car sales that are actually new cars as opposed to lease, government, other?

It doesn't bother me, brand loyalty is important to some and not to others. I'd rather idiots out there to continue to drive Holdens.

Edit,
previous perception was that Holden and Toyota sell the majority of their Commodore and camrys
to government and large fleets, what I'm showing is that Ford does the same with falcon and Territory.
The belief that most Falcons are now private sales is a complete myth.

I agree with 98TLS. How boring would the world be if we were all the same ? I love my fords and do get a bit defensive when people bag them for no ligit reason, but I did find myself in this situation yesterday.
Friend: **** car still won't go
Me: What now ?
Friend: Not sure, thought it was a fuel issue but its not, still wont.
Me: Ohhh I think I know what it could be !
Friend: Really What ?
Me: Its a Commodore. Giggle.
The best part is....He still loves my Falcon and if he had the cash he'd own it :P

One of my best mates is one of those "IM JDM AS!" and owns an S13. We always have the same argument, and it gets really annoying when he says things like "its because you drive a ford" even when it has nothing in relation to the topic.

Finally found a soft spot, apparently the rust around his sunroof isn't a very hot topic.

This was countered with the most pointless statement I've ever heard:
"Well at least my car won't fall apart while I'm driving it because it's a rust bucket"

No where, not anywhere, is there a single spot of rust on my car, had it up on the hoist and everything, even the mechanic can't find any, oh how I love fan-boi-ism.

I prefer the bogans stick to the VN-esque Commos, it makes them easier to spot on the road. Whenever I see one coming I pull over and hide behind a tree. You can (and I know this because I've done it) actually get seasick watching them drive, weaving down the road like a V8 supercar driver warming up the tyres.

As an aside, I've never seen a Corvette with a Holden badge on it.

Or a fighter jet with a "CommodoreDriver" sticker on the cockpit glass.

Interesting...

I find the Falcon – Holden rivalry interesting in that the Holden camp are irritated by the Falcons, this means that they see the Falcon as possibly a superior or at least equal product to what they drive (and the same for Ford towards the Commodore), if they weren’t they would be simply be ignored as they are towards a vehicle such as a Camry.
Each of them can thank the other for the rivalry between the two manufacturers as they keep trying to out do the other and we as consumers benefit by being able to buy great products with real performance that is mostly Australian made.
Holden started to change direction back in the days of the VB commodore producing a smaller car with a 4 cylinder engine (and others) which was a mistake as the Falcon gained some real ground on them as the Australian buying public still wanted a large family car but if the Falcon had gone out of production way back then the Commodore of today would resemble a Camry and possibly be front wheel drive and vehicles such as the R8 Clubsports would never have happened.

What does annoy me is on Australia Day each year you see people driving things like Honda CRV’s and Toyota Corollas flying Australian flags, they should hang their head in shame, if a vehicle buyer doesn’t like the Falcon then I would prefer they buy a Commodore than an imported vehicle.

I can take on board what has been posted up - but at the end of the day the main factor with car brand rivalry relates to the age group.

A car for an 18 - 20 year old becomes very meaningfull, it becomes a focal point that represents that person and can become a source of fierce brand rivaltry between their mates.

As a person grows older other things become more important.

Saying that though, come Bathurst - mates around, a few beers, everything get's thrown out the window and it's hammer and tongs between the Ford and Holden brigade.

Its funny the odd banter
Took the history of the GTHO to the mates on the weekend
His reply
"Aint watching that rubbish,bloody fords"

Funny put it on and could get him away from the telly

When we got to the Phase 4 stuff
He started on the usual dribble
Oh the XU1 V8
Fell of the couch absolutely larfin me head off

Another mate pays out on the XC a bit
But he has a little girly HZ 1 tonner
No comparison
Like chalk and cheese
