Then i go back to my previous post... why didnt Ford sue Fokker for the F100? Yes copyright laws are copyright laws... but no one is compelling Ford to sue. The "name" is copyrighted and other companies have sued other companies because of the use of a name of a product which has little to no bearing on the actual item. McDonalds are famous for sueing people for using the McDonalds name and they werent even running a burger business. Virgin Atlantic recently tried to sue someone here in Australia who had an internet business name with the word VIRGIN in it. He ran a porno site surprisingly! So again, why in this particular case sue Ferrari when clearly in the past the someone else used one of their copyrighted name? Sour grapes?

Ferrari should just change the name as said.
Call it the RS 150 for Risorgimento. Ok maybe not. |

Yeah I'm still amazed at how people don't get it. A car is a car, even when the differences are obvious. If somebody wants to bring out a line of luggage called "Corvette," it's not the same as if Toyota was to bring out a minivan called Corvette. (Assuming nobody else was manufacturing luggage with that name), as long as it wasn't made to look like it was licensed merchandise, I don't think it would be a big deal. I would assume there would be bucket loads of products out there, non car-related, with names like Falcon and Mustang. That is fine. But when you try to call a new car a Falcon or Mustang, then it's a breach of copyright. If you are still going to complain because you are too ignorant to understand it, go and learn about copyrights and trademark laws.

Word just in, Ferrari have changed the name to Ferrari F150th Italia.
Will this be enough difference for Ford? You would think so. http://www.planetf1.com/driver/18227...kly-to-lawsuit |

Porsche did plan to market the 911 as the 901, but as you pointed out Peugeot had already trademarked the "x0x" model names. So the 901 became the 911 and the rest is history.... But! Porsche did introduce the 907, 908 and the 909 and these where deemed to be ok because they where pure racing cars which were not sold for road use, so not competing with any road-going Peugeot. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_901

Ferrari and Ford have a history. I'm not surprised they've unleashed the lawyers

They didn't sue anybody. Ford were protecting a trademark they had and sent a nasty letter to Ferrari reminding them. Ferrari tweaked their name, so it wasn't breaching the trademark and problem solved.
All very standard stuff and done hundreds if not thousands of times a day around the world by companies big and small. This didn't get past a couple of letters and maybe a phone call. Nobody sued anybody and everyone still plays golf together. Jeez talk about a beatup. Dan |

Maybe the Italians are not unlike the majority of Americans themselves and live in their own little world...
Maybe they didn't even know the F-150 truck existed ? |

a trademark only covers products of similar use and copyright covers anything you can get the courts to agree is a violation.

if ford were still in f1 in 2007, would ferrari have been happy if the racing car was called the f40 in reference to the ford cosworth motor being introduced 40 years before
probably not - but that wouldn't be petty would it. it would be expected. it seems only ford can be petty, certainly not ferrari |

As a side note, the Porsche 901 fun fact is one of the tidbits displayed on the Forza 3 loading screens.
