Personally i think its about time they cracked down on the tools.. its Australia's premier motorsport event.. not the bogan nats...
You can got to BATHURST, have a great time, drink with your mates if that's what interests you and keep yourself respectable, but the top of the mount IS FERAL.
Personally i dont see the point in getting blind for 3 days straight.. you either miss or cant remember 95% of what you're actually there for: the RACING....!

The firies and ambos won't go up to the top of the mountain without a police escort. I think it's more a case of the police finally being given the money for what they wanted during APEC as it was federally funded. Now they're going to use it. It find it interesting that everyone's blasting the police but nobody is pointing the finger at Bathurst Council or AVESCO (of whoever organises the race). I have absolutely no doubt that they would have set the ball rolling in relation to getting rid of the idiots. This is the most publicised race of the round and they want to project the best image possible.

On a side note these are just some of the antics I've seen on the mountain over the years. A girl lost an eye after an explosion of a home made firecracker/incendary device, a 'proud' bogan dad throwing lit toilet paper then showing his young son who could barely walk how to do the same, cars stolen from bathurst driven up the hill and thrashed and torched, a sales vendors van burned to the ground, peoples tents set on fire with people in them asleep, volunteer firies had rocks thrown at them when they arrive to put out fires.

I used to just think they could wallow in their own filth as long as they stayed away from everyone but someone gets hurt every year and they're obviously getting worse.

Seeing the vids of course it is justified....When they're dumb as dogsh!t they won't understand the "soft" reasoning aproach.

So what if it's because of the resort? Who needs an excuse to get tools away from such a premier events.

Police had also confiscated fireworks.

"This time last year we had a very skeleton force in terms of the checkpoint management," he said.

"This year we've got a fairly sophisticated and elaborate one and that's why we're picking up on a lot of this."

Bathurst Mayor Paul Toole said the city was determined to clean up the image of the race, which in the past had a reputation for unruly behaviour.

"We want to make sure that everyone works together to sell this great event right across the globe," he said.

The security operation had been negotiated with the V8 Supercars organisation, which had partially financed the increased police presence.

"Our plan is to have this event so well run and so well populated by people enjoying themselves that the police almost become invisible," said events general manager Shane Howard.

Exactly... and so what if there are 350 or 3500 extra police.. if you're doing nothing wrong they're just spectators like the rest of us..

Is it one carton per person, per day?
If thats the case than i think its very reasonable. When i seen some of the posts on here i thought it was one carton per person for the weekend and too be honest i didn't have a problem with that either.

If these people (and i use the term loosely) were watching the race for 3 days straight in a licensed venue like a pub or club they wouldn't be allowed to drink anything close to that much before being kicked out.

I'm all for getting drunk and doing stupid things but when people are getting hurt and groped etc... then thats going a bit far IMO.

One carton a day is still going to be plenty for these jerks to get f'ed up and go nuts, hence the extra police presence. I say stuff them, if they can't control themselves ban them for a few years.

Isn't it against the law to let off fireworks in public, deal drugs and show aggressive drunken baheviour in public. Or is it because it's Bathurst that everyone gets an exemption.

colossus ,

This thread is "not meant to scare Anyone" , I look at it as "when do you stop this Behaviour" I don't think the NRL or a Concert would have this sized World Wide Audience . If you are quite happy to let other countries think our car races represent Aussies as being a "Bunch of Drug Dazed and Pi**ed Bogans " , I'm afraid I do Not, and I don't think many Motorsport Fans would .
Don't forget , this is Australia's Premier Motor Race and is seen World Wide by Millions Via Satellite .

Each year it get's worse , you let these guy's have a Foot , they take a Yard , you give them a Yard they take a Mile ? Then we can let them start throwing Beer Cans and Bottles on the track , do the NRL guys & Bands run around at 200 -250 k's + .
This is our "Olympics of Motorsport" and the 37 years I've Participated/Attended/Followed this sport , "Parts" of it have gone from a Respectable event to a Pub Brawl attitude .

If you do want to have a "Nice Day" with the family , the area you have is getting Smaller & Smaller . So what to we do ? Pull in the Reigns or Just let this Minority take over and have it Shut Down eg Bikes .

You can't blame Bathurst Council , Either Governments , Organisers or the Police if you let these Bogans "Take Over"

Then we'd have No More Bathurst.

This is not a "Arm's Length" post , My wife & I are friends with Current and Past Drivers here , Dean & Rocky Canto , Terry Sheil , Bob Forbes , Wifes Brother and My Wife had a bit to do with Brockie through her work . (Dulux Paints) Not Big names , but still participants . Also Flag Marshalls & Photographers .

If You're Happy taking your Wife & Children into that type of atmosphere , take them down to the pub at 3am , it's not needed at Bathurst . I Respect my Wife & Children More than that.

Like with anything great, The D#ckheads always ruin it. While they are the minority they cause enough problems. It's about time something was done about them ruining the great event bathurst is. As for the extra police numbers, who cares? If you aren't doing anything wrong they aren't going to do any harm to you.

have to agree, less alcohol cant be bad, it just makes half-wits no-wits. I would almost go further to say that people who do stupid stuff like setting cars alight should have a 10 year ban from bathurst

Same old story, the rotten egg spoils the dozen! Personally I'd rather see 750 police officers roaming around than 750 bogans in a drunken stupor with no respect for anyone or anything. In my experiences the police have never bothered me.

Well now I am convinced, once I read a few posts from people that I believe and dicounted the rest, I now see how bad it has been getting. I actually was thinking that I would drive over this year with my son, but work commitments got in the way. I am glad that I didn't now.

I hope the cops use their weight of numbers wisely. Itwill only take one bogan (holden fan ) and one trigger itchy cop to start a riot. It would seem that a riot is half expected, other wise they would not have gone to the trouble of the water cannon and all the resources of APEC (one thinks snipers as well, surely not!!)

I just hope that all the moron trouble makers that have been going start staying at home and watching the TV.

Last time I went to Bathurst was in 1994. We were driving up the road to the top of the hill and were stopped by a mob. They eventually let us past, but not without first spitting on my passenger, and then throwing a beer bottle at the car. If that wasn't bad enough, on the way back down an hour or so later, we had a molotov cocktail thrown at the car - it landed right in front of me and I had no choice but to drive over it. They tried to stop us, but I just kept moving - the same way you do when you drive through sheep, except sheep have more sense.

I have not been back since, but do hope to one day take my sons there - maybe in 5 years time or so. I hope by then, the idiot contingent have been well and truly removed.

I'm not sure , but I think the Organisers are footing a lot of the "Bill" to get the Police there . Maybe the Council could be helping "kick the tin" as well , it means $Millions to Bathurst's Economy , that's why they're looking at running more meetings during the year .

Wow must have been a very dull year when I went. I walked around up top for a few hours on race day and the vibe certainly wasn't aggressive like most of the posts in this thread would have you beleive.

We copped a bit of crap because my mate was carrying a holden flag, but all in good humour. I can't say I felt in mortal danger at any point. In fact the worst thing I saw all day was some ****ed idiot falling over in the urinal then getting all agro when everyone laughed at him.
