Hmmmm, I like where i live atm, Donvale (VIC). But if money was no object.

1. Main house at Aurthurs Seat, with view of City. Work apartment in City, holiday house in Echuca(river sking and dirt biking!)

2. Coogie Beach (NSW) with holiday house out near Mittagong, and city apartment.

3. Nudgee Beach (QLD) with holiday house near Gatton (in between Ipswich and Toowomba). Maybe an apartment down in the Gold Coast.

For a reasonably close in suburb I really like North Balwyn, actually lived there for a couple of years. Ultra conservative, blue rinse old biddies everywhere who are nosey and will tell you about any undesirables sniffing around your place. Houses are on plenty of land for a decent size garage. Good roads and close access to a freeway.

Could also live happily in Canterbury or Kew.

For outer suburbs I like Warrandyte, Wonga Park and Ringwood North.

To get out of the suburban fringe yet remain close-ish to Melbourne I'd go for acreage in the Yarra Valley or Panton Hill area.

Ultimately my dream is a place at Tathra, the ultimate sea change. Went there 12 months ago, first time in 20 odd years and has hardly changed!! Great place!! Pambula and Eden would be cool too. Just have to pick 6 numbers, that's all!!!

I'd bulldoze my current house (Rivett, ACT) and rebuild there.

I'm an intravert and I hate people.

I can't stand the CBD so I'd buy land out Mornington way.

I have been told not to do that anymore. Thank for the comment it has been a long time coming. Still not quite finished but not far of. The original plan is for it to be a B&B with my wife running Quilting weekends and the like.

I grew up in Laidley, and i really like dirt biking, acreage up tht way is perfect for biking and getting away from city. I know that region is full of not so desirables, but being a kid in that area, i have a soft spot for it.

3/4 an hour from Melbourne via Warburton. are you driving a jet car ? lol.
I do a lot of work for Shire of Yarra Ranges out that way, it takes me 3/4 hour in the truck from the Quarry at Montrose to get to Warbie, you must be flying. Very nice house btw.

btw. Any area up around Launching place, Yarra Junction, Wesburn is great, a couple of acres, nice big shed and no neighbours to hear every moan and groan.

We're on about 2 acres here i think...I like it here.... but id prefer to be closer to the suburbs, with less trees and more sun. I swear, you can feel the temprature drop the closer you get.

Upside of having a bit of land is the privacy. I dont think i could handle having another house only a few metres from mine. I like my music too loud.

If money was no object, id probly say somewhere near a beach with a huge block of land, with a mansion, hhhuuuggeeee garage with hoist, spray booth, and some other goodies. Lots of room for the puppies, umm a dirt bike track for steve and ... my very own cleaner to clean up after me. Now that would be the life.

BTW... Very nice place CH7472!

I wouldnt buy in the rich areas. I'd just get a decent house in middle class suburbia - in an area with lower crime rates preferably. I grew up in Mount Waverley (Melb) and something like that area would suit me fine. Although the fast food joints there now would have more curries and fried rice than meat pies if you get my drift. The makeup of the suburb has changed recently. The inner city seems too claustrophobic to me - it's hard to get a park outside a mate's place when you visit them. Most roads further out in the suburbs have more room for both traffic and parked cars and aren't as busy.

Thats a fair enough comment, and yes, the dirt biking in the area is ideal.

Near Mollymook and Ulladulla. Used to holiday there as a kid, and once I get the money, I'm buying a place down there. Plans are afoot.

Ulladulla & Mollymook. Lovely to visit/holiday but would suck to live there. Too boring and its all surfy types.

Castle Hill is nice, Coogee isn't bad. Any of these super rich suburbs would suck. Too many people with their heads too far up their ***** and everything would cost more coz its a ****y suburb.

I think the go is for a decent size home in a relatively nice suburbs area.
