O.k we had another look under the dash after xmas lunch on sunday and found a black immobliser box behind a couple of big wiring connectors on the right hand side behind all the wiring near the fuse panel.
Had to disconnect the connectors to get the black box out. Left it until this morning to have another play and ended up just removing a black 2 pin connector from immobilizer loom and plugging that into the original female loom plug just above the steering column where the other ignition connectors all plug in. Then basically just cut the whole immbilizer out with side cutters and threw it on the shed floor beside the car. Thers ALOT of wires going into that black box. Still got all dash lights on but now no relay under dash clicking when trying to crank and no sounds of fuel pump trying to prime either??? Gotta wait until next Saturday.....AGAIN.....to have another look! |

O.k i finally got some time today to have another look at the TX5.
Battery has been on a trickle charger thru the week. Ther was one red/black male wire connector on the back of the ignition switch that was'nt connected. I found the female connector plug but with yellow/black wire. Connected it anyways and tried to crank......Heard starter relay in engine bay clicking so removed jumper wire from starter solenoid and refitted original starter solenoid wire. Refitted Air flow Meter and wiring connector. Its now cranking over but i've got no fuel coming out of the fuel filter in the R/H corner. The fuel pump does'nt appear to be priming. Its dead i cant hear anything from the pump while cranking??? |

Could you try a makeshift gravity fed fuel cell / tank not associated with the rest of the system.

Yes i could try another fuel supply but it would need to have pressure behind it like the original fuel pump would normally supply. Back to work tomorrow so gotta wait until next saturday again to have another play and read the manual i bought for it. Should really be checking for 12volts at the fuel pump while cranking??? |

Well .... at least you are getting there with it.
Checked the fuse/relay for the fuel pump? I doubt these old things have a cut-off safety switch like the Falcons either.

Maybe that old immobiliser was also cutting power to the fuel pump relay?
You can always bypass the relay by removing it & shorting pins 30 & 87 to each other with a link wire (or paperclip) to see if the pump starts running. |

Back on the TX5 tonight.
Have got 12volts at the fuel pump connector (White and Red wire) with ignition turned onto accessories. I think the fuel pump is faulty??? |

Give the top of the fuel pump module (or the tank itself) a good few taps when 12V is present - sometimes they can spring into life. I once got a Commodore 300km by thumping the tank every time I went to restart it (it was 300km from the nearest dealer, and we were on a 4000km road trip across 3 states).
More recently I did the same in my mate's XH ute to get him home from a work site. Generally once they are running, they'll keep going until you switch it off again. |

It's running!!!
Put new fuel pump in and cranked it over and heaps of fuel came out of the fuel filter straight away. Put fuel line back on and cranked again and it fired up. Let it run for about 10 minutes and gave it a few revs then drove it around the paddock for a while. Lifters are a bit noisy though??? Will look in the manual i bought to see if they're adjustable??? |

Just started it again and the lifters seem to have quietened down.
Had some Morey's oil stabilizer on the shelf so put 500mls of that in which should help. How much is a running, drivable most panels straight TX5 worth these days??? |

If they are hydraulic they just may need a little running and a couple oil changes over the next month or so, depending on how it is driven. One of the cleaning additives thrown in might help too.

Clogged filter/ fuel starvation/ old and dirty fuel?
Driving it around the paddock may have stirred up sediment leading to the above. |

It's getting lots of fuel flow while cranking with the fuel filter hose off so its not a fuel supply problem.
Its sitting in the paddock until next Saturday afternoon. |

Was reading thru the workshop manual 'troubleshooting' guide the other day and it said 'engine starts but stops immedialtly'???.
Everything in that section i have right except for possible intake manifold leak? Have got the new gasket and have been having lots of fun getting intake assembly off the head cos its at the back of the engine right next to the firewall. Gotta get the whole manifold out and and clean off old gasket and from cylinder head aswell and hopefukky put it all back together next Saturday and hope thats what the problem was. Bugger of a job! |

Before pulling it all apart, how does the PCV tube connect to the intake? Can you tell if it is still secure and/or in good condition?

Just curious, but what’s your plans for this obvious shtbox? Sounds like you want to get it running to sell and make a few dollars?
My advice is it sounds like you’re spending way too much time for what will be extremely little gain. Slaving away in a hot shed to make a few hundred dollars? What do you value your free time at? If it were a project you wanted to do up and keep, fair enough. But I think you’ve already passed the effort/profit balance here. |
