However, we should consider that growth in China's oil demand was around 15% during 2004 - the recent figures put them in line with global demand growth. I believe current oil consumption in China is 3million bpd compared with US consumption at 11 million bpd... estimates say chinese demand will topple the US in around 2030 but frankly i doubt the planet has got another 25 years of oil left in her. Rapid growth always expected in a developing nation... but surely it's their right to do so?? Developed countires like ourselves have had it pretty good so far but now there's another billion mouths to feed from the 81 million barrels a day of global production... surely we cant blame them for taking "our" oil??

Man i'm so glad that I tram to work these days. $5.50 a day in transport. I think the last time I put $20 of fuel in my BA XR6 was about 2 weeks ago.
I really should sell that car because i'm hemorraging repayments for a car I just don't friggen use.

Public Transport, I love it.
Paying $1.30l in fuel to sit in peak hour traffic waiting for some idiot to eventually hit my car in a rush of idiocy, then getting to work and paying $11 a day for the privledge of parking in a nonsecure carpark only to come out of work dreading the day my car is damaged or simply gone. Then jump in and enjoy another hour heading home, in peak hour, once again waiting for the inevitable smash...or worse. Price of fuel per month: $400 Price of parking per month: $260 Wear and tear....Priceless! Total: $660 (yes, thats a nice chunk of change per month) Comparing that to publc transport.. I leave home about 10 minutes earlier and get back about 15 minutes later.. cost NIL I spend $148 a month on a 2 zone monthly ticket and might go through $30 in fuel getting to and from the station...if I drive rather then get dropped off. Sit on the train, read a book or the paper and glance up at the inevitable traffic snarls and fender benders each morning. No stress, no fuss. Total Cost $178 a month... I know people who spend that on grog on a Sat night. The difference is that, on the weekends, I get to blow $20 or $30 in fuel just having fun in my car and the kms stay off the odo. The price of fuel sucks I'll agree... but I guess it hurts some a lot more than me.

Im getting free parking at the moment which is a god send. Usually $9.50 a day and ive been broken into at said carpark - still worth every red cent IMO. Dont use much fuel, only a 30minute drive in peak hour, usually 10-15mins at 7:30 am. Adelaide not a bad place as far as traffic is concerned.

My previous job I had to drive to work, it was about 1.2km from here so a little over 7km to work. It would take me 50minutes to do the drive leaving home at 8am. And sometimes over 90 minutes to go home if there was an accident. Public transport is wonderful, I read books, do crosswords, do sudoku, and partake in aurual japanese classes on my iPod. おひよございます

Considering I live WAY out in the West of Melbourne, I think for me the option of public transport is by far the best... I guess I may be lucky in that regards.

These petrol price rises are great when you own a V8, I paid $1.36.9 yesterday for ultimate at least I can claim some of it back on tax.

the scary thing is that its summer in the USA now.....when their oil demand goes up in their winter we will really cop it.
Having said that....on my recent trip to Europe i noticed the prices over there are amazing. In Paris a liter of fuel is about A$1.90 , Athens A$1.60 , Rome A$1.70 so we are really not in that bad a situation compared to some parts of the world. James |

In NZ we are taxed about $0.60/l, and then theres GST on that (tax on top of a tax, bastards). Doesnt go down too well when averaging 25l/100km.

The government are pricks. Many of us got a bit of a tax cut last month but the money would go straight back to them in fuel tax, the higher the price of petrol the more they get, so the tax cuts really cost the government nothing.

All someone has to do is find a way to make water ignite/burn/explode.
Somethings are easier said than done. Just stuck in $25 worth @ $1.44/L here in NZ. Imma go cry in the corner now. |

No offense intended to anyone, but if there is one thing I HATE, it's public transport. I used to be a fan of it when I lived in the northern suburbs, where a tram or train was never much more then a few minutes walk away, but over here in St Albans, Melbourne, Victoria, public transport is laughable!
We have NO trams, we have the one train line which is over a 1/2 hour walk from my house, we have buses that if you're lucky come once every 1/2 an hour when they're running on time. The trains usually resemble urine filled cattle trains, with people packed in and too many people obviously affected by drugs and doing all they can to intimidate other passengers. So, with all due respect, I'd rather drive a car and get stuck in peak hour traffic going over the westgate bridge at 20km/h rather then spend any time on public transport. I just hope petrol doesn't get too much more expensive, I miss driving my little 4 cyl Escort, that thing ran on the smell of an oily rag compared to the XF...

Option 1 - 1.5 - 2 hrs on the M4 Motorway/Paramatta Rd in bumper - bumper, in your own car, with your own a/c, music, etc. Option 2 - 1 - 1.5 hrs on the train, which is always at least 5 min late, usually 10, and packed so full of people you have to stand on top of each other, breathe in the germs of sick people, etc etc, smelly stale air, etc etc. And get where you're going late even though you left on time, because of their horrible service. I know which I'd rather do.

Hate public transport. In winter because some people usually walk or ride a bike they catch the bus instead and its so packed.
In summer a lot of people arent very hygenic and smells the bus out to high heaven. Public transport is very unreliable aswell. Yes you might get traffic jams and such with a car but at least its easier that you expect it to happen and plan for it. ie. leave earlier. If you know how the traffic flows then its simple to know how to travel although still a bit frustrating (yes this is only canberra but still can get pretty chocker here) With public transport if its goin to be late and there isnt anything you can do about it. |

And say no to Bio-diesel too. I'm sick enough of driving home hungry at 9pm as it is without the tunnel smelling of fish & chips!
