Yeah the option prices (on things that should be standard) on German cars are insane.
My Dad bought an Audi A4 about 7 years ago (now my sisters) and rrp 75K or so and optioned up over 100K drive away!! Bought a Lexus after and no options needed - it had everything a car at that price should and more. |

I gotta say that I was quite impressed by the evolution of Sportage and Sorrento, while they may not be
my first choice in SUVs, I'd have no problem recommending either one to people on a tight budget. If you look at Hyundai / Kia as two sales channels of the same company, the Koreans have done a magnificent job of wrestling what I'd call the meat of the market away from the Japanese brands. Holden and Ford have already fallen on their swords but Mazda, Honda, Mitsubishi and Nissan have all felt the Koreans draining their sales....Toyota less affected of course, strong buyer loyalty. |

If they were smart they would offer it in 8 seats like they do in the US. Nearest rival is the Patrol - and it's around roughly $25k more. Starting at around $50k it would be a good buy. The extra seat will give it a point of difference over the Santa Fe as well.

The stinger is the only interesting car they have, and it has sold fairly poorly, and they are saying it won’t make it to a second generation. It will get a mild facelift in a year or 2 and that will be it. Goneski.

Palisade versus Telluride in appearance.
I posted the Telluride earlier and here is the Palisade. Given they were the same spec and price I would vote Kia all day.

Like both of them. Telluride styling looks more mature.

Yes, this. The early kias (Ford festivas) were built on Mazda underpinnings, so while the bodies dissolved in the sun, engines were reliable.
My experience with an 01 rio (the one Kia did on their own) was rubbish, so bad I only lasted 1 year with it, it couldn’t be fixed to run properly. My second was a ‘13 rio now owned by hyundai, it was excellent. My third just this week is a new sportage company car, it is also excellent. Our QLD reps have had sportages for 3yrs, some up to 200k, and have done nothing other than services, brakes, tyres. Ignore them at your peril.

I agree with everyone about the Telluride. It looks awesome and I'd buy one if I was looking for that class of car.
As for the rest of Kia? Yeah, but none of them interest me. I don't even like teh Stinger that much. There was a lot of hype before they were released, and now you hardly see them driving around. If my wife wanted a Kia I'd encourage her to buy one. Overall the Koreans are pretty good these days. |

When I met my wife in '94 she had a 12 month old Hyundai Excel.
Everything in it was paper thin and tinny but never had a drama with it. At 100,000k we sold it and bought an EA Falcon as we were expecting our first child. 2 head gaskets in 18 months later... |

I drove the "Hemi" V8 (no idea what it means) as Chrysler 300C.
Wagon option which is rare. Worst car I've ever driven. Completely terrible. |

My dad bought an EAII Falcon brand new in 1990. I don’t even think it lasted 2 years before it needed a head gasket. The transmission lost Reverse sometime around then too. I remember going back to President Ford in Elsternwick, and there was another EA parked out the front. It had “This car is a lemon” written all over it, and plastic lemons taped all around. People say “but old Kias and Hyundai’s” were terrible, and forgotten about the reality of other brands.

I remember looking at Excels in 1998 (because my 1976 Holden was so reliable and all...), it seamed that era of Excels were about best in class. They had the DOHC 1.5L, and double the power of the Barina (Corsa). Unfortunately I ended up getting a better deal on the Barina. 0-100 in 19 seconds. 33kw. It was a joke.

Haha yep. 1.2L single cam. Top speed was 140. I had it pegged from Sydney to Melbourne before all the speed cameras went up. I think it was 8 hours, which included about an hour of all-you-can-eat Pizza Hut stop in Albury. I don’t remember what model it was. But it was a 3-door, 5 speed with no AC. It was purple with some kind of girly decal along the sides. It was terrible on wet roads too. I actually had another Barina years later. A 2005 with a DOHC 1.4. That was a much better car.

It took the Koreans less time to achieve the same. Now look at the Chinese. Early Great Walls were horrible, but I know some guys who bought Havals & LDVs in the last year & they've noticed a huge improvement Dr Terry |

Rwd, turbo 4 or V6 power up to 260kw. Manual and automatic boxes. Looked pretty good Saw them being launched in Seoul when I was working there. They have / had so many more cars I think would have done well in our market. Shame we are RHD. Sent from my LG-M700 using Tapatalk

I wouldn't buy a Kia, they have nothing that suits my needs.
I even tried to fit meself into one of those 'Stingers'. Sardine Machine....

Im on my 2nd cerato
Bought one new in 2014 (My first non ford). I wanted a small cheap car that had lots of fruit. (reverse cam, satnav bluetooth etc). I was doing high milage at the time and knew it would quickly get pretty shabby. The Cerato or i30 were about all that had features i wanted for price i could afford. Slightly better price and 7 year w/t won it for me. I was really suprised how much i liked it. It was a really good car. It never let me down til one morning I wrote it off in a serious crash that I shouldnt have walked away from except it had such a strong cage. When the insurance company told me I could have any car of same value or pay difference I just said "give me another the same" Had that one for about 5 years 85K km. zero faults.. still on original brakes and tyres. No rattles squeaks, nothing broken or not working. And it is nice to drive. I will keep this til it dies then I will be back down the Kia dealer. Maybe a stonic or seltos.. |

Our little i30 diesel which we bought new has just turned over 195,000 kms.
I mentioned on this forum years ago that I would post once it had covered 200,000 and let everyone know how it had fared and what had needed repair/replacement etc. I'll go through the service records once she clicks over and report back - warts and all. Damn thing better start giving me problems real quick, otherwise I may not have much to type... |
