I spent 6 months in Adelaide in probably 1970, I had to have a year off for breaking my indenture,so off to Adelaide, stayed at Blair Athol,I remember every Sunday driving out to Granny Smiths at Gawler, too cool, during the week the Edinburgh Hotel. Drove an FC holden down from Sydney, picked it up for 50 bucks, had no front passenger floor at all, just put some plywood over it,it blew up outside police headquarters in the city within 10 minutes of arriving, about 2am,to their credit the cops come out and pushed us off the road, got a crew to clean up the oil, then beat us up!..lol..true story, the biggest copper who was a detective just said, " we don't like long haired poofters in our town "..fair dinkum, my mate said what a nice welcome home, we just grabbed our bags and big block of hash and walked off,.hahaha.. Cheers Billy. |

Hello,
When I started this thread I had an expectation of certain "Aussie pub bands" being spattered throughout this thread, I will mention them below, ok... Spectrum Axiom Ariel Company Caine Madder lake The Dingoes...especially with Broderick Smith on harp! Kahvas Jute Black feather Sid Rumpo Buster Brown..with Angry Anderson! Carson...with Broderick Smith again on harp! Chain...Matt Taylor and Phil Manning! The Phil Manning Band Dutch Tilders The Foreday Riders Lobby Lloyd and the Coloured Balls..top skinhead band! The Ferrets Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band Buffalo Max Merritt and the Meteors Doug Parkinson In Focus Mackenzie Theory And of course my Aussie favourite Richard Clapton, got on the **** with him one night with another mate George "Groover" Wayne from JJ, I spent the night at the ABC studio with George chuffing on,Richard walked in and George put about 3 hours of music on and we went over to the Elephant and Castle to start, then the whole Kings Cross routine, good old days. But I was really hoping we would get someone who had "broke their cherry" on one of the above bands!..lol.. Regards Billy PS..keep em comin its good clean fun! AC/DC and Little River Band on the same bill in 1974 at the Whyalla town cinema. It was a school outing and I was 10.

I'm jealous!..lol..no I'm not just kidding, only seen him on video and he did a nice interview, seemed like a pretty cool, laid back dude. Cool..... Regards Billy. PS..was going to put "sharpie" too,but stuck with skinhead, a more common name to any non Aussies reading, skinhead is worldwide, but sharps were all Aussie, I knew quite a few from around Cabramatta to Parramatta area! Dire Straits, Sydney Ent. Centre in the Mid-80's. From memory they had a 8 concert tour at that particular Venue? Correct?

Genesis, Melbourne, circa 1987 was the first stadium show I'd seen. Still, wow!
My first pub rock show was Jimmy Barnes with Johnny Diesel and the Injectors, 1987 I think. Bridge Hotel just out of Mildura. Damn it was good, maybe 1000-1500 capacity crowd and LOUD. Awesome show with Jimmy swigging on the vodka bottle and the roadies running across the stage throwing cold VB cans into the crowd. Hell of a venue back then, all the big acts used to play there. Icehouse, Noiseworks, James Reyne, The Mentals, Jenny Morris, Pseudo Echo, Wa Wa Nee (heh!), Choirboys were some others I saw there. Midnight Oil and INXS were too big back then to play there, but we were pretty spoilt for choice for a regional venue. Great times.

Remember the Kevin Borich Express? Saw him way back when. Didn’t mind Richard Clapton either. Saw the Angels at the Sundowner hotel at Punchbowl in Sydney ..sporting little venue, Bankstown sport club too. Sharon O’Neill ..what a spunk hahaha. Would have loved to see Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs.
