I have come across two of these before that were scams.

One recently when I was looking at purchasing a Harley Davidson.

The guy said he had the bike in NSW in storage. He was currently living overseas and wanted to get rid of the bike as he had moved. He was prepared to ship it to me as well.

He had photos and when I asked him did he have proof of ownership he sent me photos of the rego papers with his name on it and also photos of serial numbers on bike motor, gearbox etc. that all matched the papers.

I caught on because he wanted a $5000 deposit and wanted me to do it the an escrow account. The old to good to be true kicked in plus the e-mails were a bit suss and he avoided questions I asked but persisted for a deposit to ensure the bike was mine. Once we started negotiating the bike left the web site just as quick as it appeared. I asked why it wasn't on web site but no answer. This guy I am sure had made enquiries into someone elses bike and been sent all the documentation he needed to pretend to sell it and then setup an AOL account in a similar name to what was on rego papers.

And about two weeks after that I spotted a BA GT in the Trading Post that was also another too good to be true. I sussed it out just to confirm my suspicions and it was very similar approach, wanting deposit and using an escrow account.

The one giveaway I have found is they usually use a hotmail, aol, yahoo or similar account and they will put pressure on you to give them some holding money.

If it is too good to be true then it probably is.
But if anyone finds a cheap Phase 3 hey maybe it is worth checking out. LOL

My dealer received a handful of calls today enquiring about the car.
So my dealer rang me figuring I may be buying another car soon. (chasing a sale) lol

Apparently whoever is replying to the enquiry form on CarPoint is claiming to be me AND mentioned to the buyers my dealer’s details.

Jeez Cam, it sounds very suss, like someone that may know you or of you to be able to gain the info and to know what dealer you got it from etc

You could also say "The Chase Is On!"

I'm with ELGT146, these are on the web everyday. One good point, maybe, is in most cases these people have no intention of giving the car to the "buyer", they get the deposit and split. Always the same story out of town, usually overseas, give them deposit and they will arange to meet you or something. The ones I seen are obviously put together by people who know nothing about cars or Australia eg states stuffed up, locations wrong, models wrong....they just want the deposit. Here's some fun for you the last one I chased up an S Type Jag usually 60-90k for around 20k...

Email No.1: (note the real good english)

Hello ,

First i will like to thank you for contact me regarding my car .
I am located in Dublin , Ireland for the moment because I have a family
problem that I must take care but the car is in Melbourne. The price is
20.000 $ ,like i said before,i sell this car so low because i really need
this money ( 20.000 ) asap,i have some family problems. This car is like new,
STATE OF THE ART, completely working, no scratches, no dents, never been
abused, always well taken care of,low miles, with 3 years EXTENDED,
INTERNATIONAL and TRANSFERABLE warranty and will be honored at any dealer in
your country, the car was properly serviced and stored, has a clear title and
it can be registred into your name at any time, all the additional documents
needed for registration ( servicing history, original invoice, inssurance,
registration, manual) keys and accesories are available and you will receive
them along with the car. So,if you are intersted please reply for more
details regarding the car and the deal.

Thank you!!!

Email Two:

Hello,

I am sorry but there is nobody home that is why i must come in person to
finish the deal .

Like you know the car is 16000 AUD . In order to finish the deal you must
pay a deposit of 4000 AUD .As i have told you the car is in Melbourne but i
am in Dublin (Ireland ).I don't use to let my house keys to anyone just like
that, that's why i have told you that i must come perssonaly and take care of
the deal.
I overlooked the website to see how it can be done securely and I noticed
that most sellers accept a deposit with the ballance to be paid upon
receiving the car. I have discussed this matter with my family and we
decided to accept 4000 AUD deposit.

If you can go to the nearest Western Union agent and send this first
payment,i will immediatly take the first plane to AU and i will be glad to
hand you the keys of the car. Then you will have 2 weeks to inspect the car
and send me the ballance.I hope this is acceptable to you and you realize
that i can't come to AU without having a proof of payment.I'm looking
forward receiving a positive response.
This is my name and address:

Name - Jxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxx , Ireland .

After you've completed the transfer you will receive a confirmation that
will alow me to track the transfer. Here are the details that i need:
-Sender name and address
-Receiver name and adress
-Exact amount wired
-MTCN # (10 digits)
If you can't find a Western Union near you can also make the deposit in a
bank acount but will take 3 days ... Western Union is faster but once again
I will accept payment via bank transfer . It's up to you .As soon as the
payment will be confirmed and the money properly sent,I will IMMEDIATELY
take a plane to AU to meet you and hand you the car.The payment is fully
refundable if for any reason you do not accept the item or if the product
has scratches, hidden defects,or it is not as advertised. But i think is not
necesarly,because i
guarantee for my car.
Regards

Notice the price drop between emails, can't even remember whats been said..

If your man is like this he is just using your photos. However I would be a bit suspect about the Keys????

Ok, the plot thickens.

I've checked out my key ring and I dont have a tag on like that.

I think they are my spare keys . . . . which are missing!!!

I'll keep looking to see if I can locate the spares.

Cam
Have you found your spare keys yet :

54Ghia.

Sounds like a similar type of scam as what was in ACA or TT a few months ago.
The one where some dude in brissy lost 14,000 trying to buy a VT commy off Ebay.

Cant wait to see if the reply emails for this are any similar
