Fuel prices will be hurting large cars sales without any doubt, i bet fuel ecconomy is an improtant consideration in the purchase of a new large car now for the first time for allot of people too....

The fuel ecconomy sticker on the windscreen is more important now than ever before, i bet a few sales are won or lost on that piece of info alone in the future, especially with the overall product on offer from all sides being good..

the VE is sold out until christmas. so says my old man who works on the press line down gmh so i reckon he's got a pretty good idea of what the demand is right now.

Yeh sold out on dealer stock orders which are totally different to customer orders.

Dealers usually fill up on new models for the first 4 months, the factory is usually left with no left over stock.

Not a bad month for the 380 considering the new Camry is out, maybe it might even boost 380 sales as the 380 seems to be a better car (even tho theres no 4 pot option).

Ford Sales have gone down but considering its the first mont of a new competitor its not hugely disadvantaged, also good to see Ford is still number 1 for Aussie Made sales!

Havent really looked at the break up quite as closley as I did this time. A couple things does Falcon Ute normally outsell the Commodore Ute? Secondly Fairlane outsold Statesman buy along way.

Ford's local models did extremely poorly - a shocking month. The only 'good' result is the release of the Turbo Territory which added much needed volume. Ford's imported models had another great month.

Too early to say what impact the VE will have on Holdens local sales figures. For the imported models there are more losers then winners. Overall Holden is down significantly on this time last year.

66% of Ford vehicles sold in August 06 are Australian made.
55% of Holden vehicles sold in August 06 are Australian made.

For August 2006 the fuel types were as follows:

Petrol - 65,704 (83.2%)
Diesel - 11,591 (14.7%)
LPG - 1,354 (1.7%)
Hybrid - 293 (0.4%)

Total - 78,942 (2,719 heavy commercial vehicles not included)

For August 2005 the fuel types were as follows:

Petrol - 73,253 (87.7%)
Diesel - 9,203 (11.0%)
LPG - 893 (1.1%)
Hybrid - 146 (0.2%)

Total - 83,495 (2,682 heavy commercial vehicles not included)

Dedicated petrol powered vehicles lost 4.5% of their market share. All non petrol powered segments increased sales compared with August 2005. Diesel engined vehicles continue to increase their market share. Too early to tell what impact the recently announced government LPG grant will have upon sales of new vehicles equipped with LPG engines (e.g. July 2006 LPG was 1.8% of total market)

Holden Announced with the launch of the VE that production of a special "Launch" edition car, called the Commodore V would start this month.

If you go onto any of the Holden forums, many people are reporting that they are ordering and being told October/November for delivery for some models. Holden are still ramping the plant up to full capacity and I read at least one report of somebody being told Jan 2007 for delivery of a Calais V.

Also remember Ford have been discounting like crazy on the Falcons to combat VE while they get BF2 out the door. Can anybody remember the Jun/Jul figures for Commodore and Falcon. I think from memory this month is a bigger month for both brands, which may be a blip thanks to VZ/BF runout and VE first mover demand. Thanks FF for your summary.

Thats normal for people to be ordering and waiting for cars, particularly if they want options / colours. Doesnt mean Holden has sold the next 3 - 4 months worth of stock, thats a total load of tripe!

Come 2007 there will be 2 - 3000 06 Commodores sitting around Yards Australia wide..

Ive been hanging out for these two figures. Now that shows the small car segment is making a big impact over the Big Boys Toys. Focus had more sales over the Terri even with every second ad on TV being a Terry ad. The Fiesta never gets any marketing $$$ put into if for some reason be known to me and it has the Best Overall % increase over last years figures. In NZ most of the large Lease companies drive BF's as their company cars but I hear they are mostly changing to VE.

Well with the XR5 its a different story as supply around the world is not meeting its demand not only in australia. The Fiesta has no shortage of supply anywhere and is quite popular on the roads thanks to the new WQ model, but it is not getting the recognition it deserves especially from Ford. I think they think the Fiesta is the new Festiva (a model that is nothing compared to the fiesta), even ford delaerships and service coons think a fiesta is a festiva. COME ON. Shows there is no support even on a brand knowledge level.

IMHO the small car segment doesnt need much support. All the panic merchants and the media are doing that for them. And Im glad Ford dont advertise XR5 more widely or I'd spit on the posters due lack of supply (sorry sore point).

Fords biggest worry on the small car front is the Daewoo rebadged bargain basement priced stuff, throw an dodgy Astra into the mix rather than the Euro car and the change will be complete....not everyone has a brain when they throw over the folding stuff for wheels....

The point i am making is other manufacturers had and have more impact in the Small Car Segment than Ford. I could name all the hot hatches that have been popular but CBF. I am very suprised that Focus and Fiesta sales over the past 3 months have been growing quite well. Its just a shame that earlier in the year sales were not high. So you maybe right. Maybe ford have woken up and seen the light.

I have only ever seen 3 fiesta ads on tv and i live in sydney. Maybe in SA there is a bigger market?

From what I understand, the Falcon ute is generally rated above the Holden ute. Well, at least since the BA was released. They are both good utes for the price though. But being a Ford man, I'd always choose the Ford.

But they are both good.

Edit: There is almost nothing between Holden and Ford in utes from my understanding.

The Focus is rated above the Astra by many sources.

The XR5 has a 5 month waiting list, last time I heard. You cant even get an employee discount on it. Why waste money on something that dosn't need advertising.

Astra would be 3rd or 4th in class. Focus outsold it this month, Corolla always does and so does the Mazda 3.
