Couldn’t pay me enough to do weddings.
Drunk people, women’s high heels and jewellery, men’s belt buckles etc. wedding party throwing the doors open till they rebound off the stops. Grabbing at the upholstery to haul themselves out of the car. Spilt drinks if wedding party insist on taking one for the road on the way to the venue. Kids wanting to climb in or on the cars. recipe for disaster. As for resale, both will crash from current highs when the boomers cant drive them anymore with a heap end up on the market as only a fraction of their millennial kids have an interest in cars. |

Can people tell me, how accesible parts are for both a classic Mustang and classic falcons?
I know there are a number of places in Australia and US that do reproduction parts for mustangs. But what about 60's Falcons? Are there any places that do them and are they affordable?

Mustang parts are probably cheaper, the routes to repair more well-trod. Any XR sedan that’s not a mint one-owner car is essentially a GT-in-waiting.
I think also the reselling of a Mustang if you didn’t like it, would be a little easier than a Flagon. Agree with the thrust of Smoo’s remarks, it’s as though you cede proprietorial rights when some of these cars are in public places. Peoples’ levels of respect vary enormously. If you buy to enjoy or admire. After all people drop large sums on modern disposable cars/appliances that lose 50% after five years. So even if you were to lose on resale for a classic it will be small change compared to a modern car. Mustang parts pretty sure everything is replaceable from the likes of CJ pony parts, summit racing and rock auto. At a guess some brake and suspension parts will cross over to the Falcons of the era? Just bought a full 289 gasket set for $155. Rear wheel cylinders for Mustang $9. Front caliper repair kits around $20, etc. |

Smoo's comments hit some home truths I need to weigh up. My attitude to the car regarding how people treat it will be at the fore front of my mind. How would I react if someone were to treat it like rubbish just because 'they paid for the hire'? A large bond would have to be part of the arrangement. Im guessing insurance would then be massive due to using the car as a commercial application. Cleaning/soilage fee etc etc. Im guessing people may be turned off at the +++ items on top of the hire fee. Man this is a reality check I didnt think I needed.

The aftermarket parts supply seems to be plentiful due to how many Mustang cars were made and still around. Common yes they seem to be, by the looks of things. But could be more affordable to replace items in the long run? Rare Spares seems to be the only mob that you can get some parts for 60s falcons. Depending on what you're looking for that is.

of the Mustang, no. I do have one of the XR but not sure Im allowed to post anything up.
Am waiting on one mustang I like that is currently being restored. Kind of picky on what I want there. The XR I dont have any choice but resting the sentimentality of it.

Kill 2 birds with one stone get a two door 66 Falcon the only downside is the spare parts aren't as well supported as the Mustang and the Australian Falcon.

I see what you're saying. However, access to parts at affordable prices is a big play for me.

And Early Bird Falcon Parts in Thomastown (no website) carry a wide range of stuff for early Falcons. It's going to be a specialist thing getting parts for an XR Falcon, it's not going to be a summit racing job like the Mustang but once you know where to look, it's not going to be a problem, plus there'll be some limited crossover. Plus you also have this forum, there's enough people with grey hair coming out their ears on this forum who know **** from clay to help with chasing up parts. You can still buy the speedo cable and brake cables from the original manufacturer, they're still around and they still have the original drawings. Also when you're all dead none of us are going to give a **** about 1960s/1970s Falcons and Mustangs, so don't worry too much about resale value cause in 25-30 years it'll be worth scrap value, or no one will be able to drive it because unleaded cars will be banned Last edited by Franco Cozzo; 23-03-2023 at 01:08 AM. |

Rares do alot of product for Xseries I find.
Anyway its how it is having a ol skool beast to me, you certainly can't expect most of the parts being at pricing of common high volume product, thats life. Sourcing bits can be a pain but sooner or later searching or someone helps.

The pony isn't a prob for parts/panels everything ex USA as you'd know if not here.
The Falc as we know, some bits easy some not. Like some of us TSeries owners and previous models, you start accumilating parts/bits that are hard to find for the "one day".........

Im guessing I will be collecting bits and pieces over time no matter the car. I used to do it with the Subaru's I had but didnt really need to being more modern cars and parts easier to get. But older cars I will need to start a collection I gather.

It seems like you are really set on the mustang, I think you should go the mustang.
For what it's worth, I'd take the XR given the choice. Only old mustang i'd own is an Eleanor mock up.

You could be right there mate. The Mustang is something Ive wanted for so long but the XR while its sentimental doesn't stir the emotions up the same way. That said Im not sure what decision I will take at this point until I inspect both vehicles in the flesh in detail.

In terms of parts then the Mustang is probably the easiest classic car to get parts for anywhere in the world. You can literally buy anything you need on line, there are a tonne of parts suppliers for them.
Falcon, not so much. |
