Personally if I had a son who wanted to buy a Ford (Holden fan here), I wouldn't care.

I've gone through weird stages myself I think it's gone LJ Torana, ED Falcon, MK1 Supra, AE86 Corrolla, VS SS etc.

I would only buy a VT if it was a V8, but I reckon they look pretty cool. Not as nice as the VS, but I would have one.

I've brainwashed my 7 year old into fords. It's worked so well, recently he stared crying when I bought home a hire car which was a holden. Hows that for good parenting :

I went through the Commodore stage myself as a younger p-plater. I had a VN V6 even
though growing up I had loved Fords and wanted nothing but Falcon V8's.

Peer pressure comes into it a little. At the time all my friends (literally ALL my friends!)
owned Commodores. So I guess it was just to fit in.

Plus at the time I was trying to impress a girl who was into Holdens, lol!

When i got my first car (my only car LOL!) i pretty much went ford because my family had always had them, and i could get one easy from my grandfather. BUT, i would have got a falcon anyway because i can't stand the way commodores drive. The VT is a nice looking car, and that is about it IMO. Lots of other issues like rear tyre wear, pretty slow, rough as guts, not any more fuel efficient, vague as steering and that gearbox...oh lordy.

Convince your son to drive a comparitive age falcon (offer to do it where his anti-Ford mates can't see him) back to back with the holden and then if he can look you in the eye and honestly say he still wants the Holden then all the best to him in my book. You should have no problem being able to tell he is lieing, if he is your real son that is LOL!

Tell him standard issue with a commo is a mop & bucket to clean oil from driveway. what am I thinking the commo cant be on the drive it will have to be parked atleast a block away don't want the house values in the area to collapse.Young blokes cant afford commos think about the constant price of repairs. wait it's raining, engine - revving, sliding yep the commo owners are out it's the only time they can break traction

CONFESSIONAL TIME...

My first car (going back a fair while now) I had set out to buy a commodore. My dad and family only bought Fords and Toyotas prior to this. So I was definitely a black sheep, but dad took me out and we tried all of the cars available at the price. The falcon I drove was so much better than anything else available at the time. So an XF S pack became my first car. I have driven mainly fords ever since. (Two mazdas and a Nissan in there somewhere).

Dad put no pressure on me at all, but was astute enough to be aware of all of the advantages the Falc had. I chose based on the best car available at the time.

Bump up his life insurance, considering how many young blokes do themselves some damage in these things.

As stated earlier in other posts it would be a peer pressure thing.
I loaned the money to my daughter to buy a VS commodore, it isn't too bad but the Govt VS I had when I was with the Government was absolute rubbish.
My Daughter had to have a Holden because her boyfriend was a Holden man, joke is he had a drive of my heavly modified XF ute and just had to have it, he brought the XF off me but still goes for Holden at Bathurst and the like.
He has been in the Turbos I have and says when he has enough money he is going to get one, go figure, he loves the fast Fords but can't bring himself to see anything but Red when the V8 supercars are on.

I only sat in an AU years ago, but since I drive a VTII, it is reliable, and costs little to run and maintain compared to the old XF Wagon (The Tractor).

I have no idea how much better an AU is than at VTII, but from an operation point of view, the VTII has been reliable as hell, although admittedly, the interior is just about falling apart in places. "Wear and Tear". :

Eww a VT, why not a VX? at least some of the bugs were smoothed out in the VX.

Next thing you know he'll have put in chrome altezza lights and make an already ugly back end even worse.....

Is there anything worse than a VT with altezzas?

mate nothing is smoothed out in the VX. ive been driving my mums VX S pack all week. the airbag cover is so warped its about to fall off. the airbag is faded. the wheel has faded. none of the storage comparments click in properly. every door has dropped the passenger seat is jammed. the seat backs have fallen off. theres surface rust to about 80% of the car. the spoiler is powdery the headlights are going yellow the badges r falling off on the fenders and its just about to click over to 99 000 km

where as the EF a whole 5 years older is sitting on 135 000km. every plastic is accounted for and seated firmly. nothing is faded theres no surface rust the headlights are clear as . i could go on all day but u get the point.

when i drove my xr this weekend i felt like i was in heaven.. but back to the slushbox in 7 hours
