doesn't the warranty start from the day you pick them up, most warranties run out of time before k's are up, so don't stress it

The Day first registered. There's plenty of undriven demos around the countryside so you need to be cautious quoting this.

I think almost all the new FG-X falcons we have sold have been on the test drive, atleast 50km. Certainly don't get driven to get morning smoko.

I purchased a 'brand new' XR8 Ute. It had 164kms on the clock - 'Oh, Tickford occasionly pick a car and do special testing, It may even have some unique tune and set up'. Blah blah blah. Lying a holes. Then I found that they had even pranged it on a demo drive.
Scum bags. Ended up getting a new Ute however very very poor form.

My XR8 had 39 on it. Had the "selected at random for road test" sticker on it.

I bought the wife's Barina and it had 18klm on it and we bought in June and the compliance plate showed February as the manafactuary date and it was licensed and they classed it as a demo and gave us a 3 year warranty from the date of licensing and we got it with a $999 discount.

54kms is ok, I'd be a little concerned if it was a brand new car with over 500kms etc

I recall when I bought my XR4. They didn't have a licensed demo, but they let me test drive a new (white) car with dealer plates. I was initially attracted to the white one because it reminded me of my Cobra's "Baby" but then I changed my mind and got a blue one that at the time was still parked around back unprepared. It's an interesting question. At what point, after how many test-drives, should a car be sold as a demo?

Less than 100km I wouldn't really care. If it was more I would just expect it's been in stock for a while and moved around.
What's more important is how you feel, ask for an explanation if you're not happy. |

wonder how they keep it at zero when at min it has to leave the manufacturers work shop to manufacturers yard , yard to transport carrier , transport carrier to dealership for sale ... it has to move something !
they don't build it where you buy it

.............. As for 40-50km's on the ODO. They do test drive these cars. Some for Q&A checks, some that have had repairs and testing. The first 400 BFII cars were all test driven (in a certain route) before getting shipped off to the dealers. Wouldn't worry about it too much.

My mother picked her new Honda up a few weeks ago and it had 14kms on it. So I'd say it varies from make to make, car to car etc. anything under 100 clicks is acceptable I reckon

My 300 had 23kms on it when I picked it up, which I found it acceptable.
Had to be loaded on the boat in Canada, then unloaded in Brisbane, moved around for compliance before been loaded in the car carrier to be transported to town here, then they had to get the car detailed and tinted before my collection. but yea, I would expect anything under 50 is acceptable for Brand new and not used for testing. any higher and it might be older stock been moved or test driven. (or tested as stated before in this thread by others) but 100km or less, and you don't have any grounds to whinge about it.

My 6 had 54km on it when I picked it up... Though 20 of that was from my test drive... They didn't have a demo so I drove the one I was looking at buying they had in stock...lol..
My i30 work car had 12km on it and the VE series 2 commodore before that had 60kms on it but the dealer drove it from the dealer to work to deliver it which would have added 30 or so... Its a brand new car, anything under 80km I reckon is sweet...

Or just have the dealer do a reset on the odometer when it sells.
Highly illegal of course lol |

What test does Ford Oz do to a new car that comes off the line anyway?
Does it do a few kms on a dyno or are they driven a certain distance. If you are one to be worried about the Kms or have a limit of what you think should be on the Car then it should be highlighted when you are making the deal when purchasing.

I have been in the states for 8 years now. I work at a car dealership. There is no limit here as far as I know. I have delivered cars with about 250 miles on them because people have wanted a specific colour/model etc. The easiest thing to do is dealer trade. We are about 200 miles from Salt Lake City, where there are multiple larger dealers. So the car they are getting also has 250 miles on it, which they will also sell as "new." It's not an uncommon practice here. If it is further than that, we will use the truck and trailer to do it, but you use 2-3 times the amount of fuel to do it. The warranty doesn't start counting until the vehicle is sold. The difference with a "demo" unit, is the warranty time and mileage has already started. Not sure if they use the same practices in Australia?

AH ... problems of the well-healed.
I don't think I'll ever be rich enough to buy new! Mainly because of the triple M syndrome ... Marriage, Mortgage and the 2 recent additional Monsters to the family ... BTW ... I'm just griping because I'm jealous! |
