Cadillac Seville is a FWD 4.6L V8, its been done.
I quite like the look of this new Taurus, its a hell of a lot better than that 90s one, the 90s one, looks like you could drive it from both ends. |

For the question of having a V8 in a FWD vehicle, there's no way it will ever happen again. Ford are moving away from the bent 8 for the use of Ecoboost, they will not revert to it.
The V8 will exist in niche RWD models, like the Mustang, and performance Falcons and, when the time comes, Lincoln. Don't quote me on this, but the Taurus may end up on a smaller platform (Mondeo), so the likelihood of a) Falcon becoming a FWD Taurus, and b) Taurus getting a V8, are as good as a politician telling the truth.

I see Taurus becoming the new big full sized car, sharing power train and electricals with CD4 Mondeo/Fusion which in turn becomes even closer in size to Falcon. Even the next Focus as a large small car will be bordering on a small mid sizer. Falcon/Territory need to do their own thing, serve the FAPSA region and fit into those plans. The rest of this current product cycle is needed to allow Ford NA to continue evolving Fusion/Mondeo and Taurus/Explorer into true global platforms to suit all regions. In six years time, we all may be in a different fame of mind depending on what happens between then and now. Even though the diehards will want their RWD, I can see a lot of people being pleased by what they see coming in the new FWD Fords.... |

I'm pretty sure Ford want Mondeo/Fusion/Toreass merged onto one platform. Whether that means Mondeo and Fusion will get bigger or the Taurus will get smaller, who knows. Probably the former I would say.
Unless that has changed and the Mondeo/Fusion will stay as a C/D car and Taurus is to become the global large car platform. This will mean that the Falcon and the principles that underpin it (driving dynamics, RWD etc) will either cease to exist or form the basis for a new Lincoln product assault on foreign markets (like China). Both scenarios are highly plausible, but I suspect Dearborn has far too much invested here now with product development and RWD expertise to can the lot and turn its back on RWD passenger cars.

It will only be a matter of time Holden heads down the same path with the Commodore and replaced Commodore with a global RWD platform from GM.

If Ford head office didn't support the continued sale of Falcon, it would be gone in a heartbeat. In fact, the very opposite is happening with Derric Kuzak (product guru) making Ecoboost possible in the Falcon and was also behind the scenes with the V6 diesel for the Territory. |

They look great, have a lot of character which is sorely missing from aussie Fords (and Holdens)

I, too, think it looks great, but I don't think that's "kinetic" - which is Ford of Europe's design language.

Sharing a platform (with Lincoln) doesn't mean they won't have different top-hats. For example the next Focus' platform will have nine(?) different top-hats, so you could apply the same argument to each and every one of those cars.

Not too sold on how it looks if it where to be sold in australia
But the interior is effing awesome and the features it has seem like they're years ahead of falcon.

The amount of tech in these things is amazing. We cannot even get a decent premium sound system setup that is premium let alone other features.
The falcon is pretty basic compared to this. However I do love the style of the fg and I own one. But technology wise If I were to choose between an AWD Taurus Turbo or an XR6 Turbo. I would go the Taurus. |

The FG interior is far better laid out and looks more upmarket. In saying that though, I do agree on us missing out on a lot of good tech.

I'm tipping styling cues from the Taurus on the new Falcon for sure...
Though the one thing that I like from the interior is the T-bar on the shifter... that is such a difference to what is in most cars today (joystick style, small tiny shifters)... that thing reminds me of the T push-down on the TNT that Wiley Coyote uses (pardon the Coyote pun!!!)
