Why are your revs different at cruising speeds?

At 60kph the old stall was fine, as is the new one, if I just set it on cruise control. Both lock up and hum along. Thing is I rarely would use cruise for 60kph zones so any slight movement of my foot and the auto jumps up a bit in revs looking to go. Because 60kph is so low in the rev range in 4th the auto is actually not even close to its stall speed at I can notice a bit of slippage in it. This probably happened with the old stall, just not as pronounced. So, on average, it appears to rev slightly higher.

As for freeway, I havent done a run on it yet so I'm not sure how it will differ. Based on 80kph zones I've been through yesterday I dont think it will slip at 100kph, I doubt it will be noticable.

Fortunatly the electronic lock up is still fully opperational so it will still lock the converter even well under stall rpm's.

Not to sure about style, I just pick each mod for the best possible improvement taking into account the big picture of my plans for the car. So far everthing has worked well without mishap.. which it should.

Don't the auto's go into direct drive (no clutch or whatever) in 4th anyway? So at cruising speeds it shouldn't be slipping? Could be way wrong here though

They do.. but if you move the accelorator they disengage to allow you to rev out more. Its not a dedicated direct drive in 4th until a certain rpm is reached. I'll see if I can find the TPS % that direct drive engages at, I know I had it somewhere.

Converter lockup is available in any gear. I think I remember the AU manual saying lockup will occur above 80kph??

Those playing with AU edit at the moment would be able to confirm the converter lockup strategy for us...

yes, converter will lock up in all gears based on speed, rpm and TPS.

Ahh I see, now get it to the track!

Ill race you heads up in the torry on the 22nd! :P Just to remind me why I shouldnt have got rid of the AU. If I can concentrate with all the (death) rattles at over 100km/hr.

Hopefully I'll be there on the 22nd... wont get to the track before then though.

Somehow I think the torry might still have the edge. I know you are not going to race it unless its got a suprise or 2 in it :P

Anyhow, I'll still give you a race, its all good fun. :

Nah I want to race it regardless. It would be good to get a base figure before the mods start.

Plus its manual and I suck at manual. :

Do you need a chip to run this mod or can the convertor just be swapped for the stally??

As in does the stall convertor need to be tuned to the ecu?

Or is it a straight swap?

Straight swap. No tuning required.

All Falcon Autos have a stall converter in them anyhow, this is simply a straight swap to an aftermarket one.. no different to changing exhaust systems.

The only main difference is this stall needs (NEEDS, not should have, NEEDS) a big aftermarket trans cooler as well or the auto will cook.

My engine is unopened as well, its not critical and, if you do cam it later on, will only improve your cars performance.
If your auto is in good condition and the trans fluid kept cool, it doesnt harm your auto and certainly will not kill your car.

All up cost including cooler was around $1200

just makes ya wanna run out and get one...lol,

The real good news is that Casper will go down the 1/4mile with each mod he gets and you will be able to see the difference that particular mod has made to the performance of the car,

Which is good for all of us wanting to know what mod will do what.
The proof is all in the Timeslip

Ahhhh Casper, always planning something. Good to hear you are happy once again with Brendens handy work. I feel very sorry for your rear tyres.

Walkinshaw- As for the Red EB, it was built for a good laugh.

Just remember, a hi stall is not something you need to put on your insurance.. there is simply no way they would ever know!

ooh ooh what trans is in the red one now? Is it a fully prepped one ready to go racing or a T5 ready to be destroyed?

So the stock units in the AUIII XR's won't cut it?

heres some pics of the trans cooler.. its basically almost as tall as the radiator... and reasonably wide too. I didnt have a factory one but I'm guessing this is significantly larger.

Shrugs, car starts, stops and turns. Anyhow do JMM also do trans coolers to suit?
