The BA/BF series is the VT/VX popularity all over again.

I put replicas of classics like XY GTHO's in a different cetegory though, as the prices of geniune ones is so far out of reach of the average person that replicas are the only option for the average joe who craves a GTHO. I think thats different from some tool with a 5k VT who wants his car to look like a 15k Clubsport, by the time they tart up their stocky it probably costs near enough to what a genuine one would have cost in the first place. |

The difference with people doing up a Falcon 500 to look like a GT is that they wouldn't attach the GT bits with tek screws, zip ties and sikaflex, unlike the 17 year old Commodore drivers and their dodgy bodykits.

he even has the Boss stickers on the bonnet! Thats at LEAST a 20rwkw gain right there... I agree with the "each to thier own" thing, but replica's (i'm talking newer falcons, EA onwards...) just look tacky. I mean, my XR8 is just that, an XR8. NOT a GT. I think it would be degrading to both the GT and XR badges if i was to turn it into another replica.

It depends on how far you go with your copying, and few subtle style cues is fine, even a full bodykit from the same series car. But wrong badges and stickers, or mix and matching parts from other models and manufacturers really goes too far. (I think I managed to defend the mods i've done to my car, whilst still making my point).

i feel any replica is wrong these people spend money to make it look like a GT and then they want the same price i mean 24k for a replica your could build it.
i prefer the individual look to a replica, i would pay 12k for my friends xw wagon witch is s 6 over a wagon gt replica why because it is different. when i got my escort the first thing one of my friend told me was i should do it up like an RS when i get a new car next year it being rebuilt to look exactly the same but with the rally pack bumpers and rear spoiler( which it is ment to have because it is a rally pack.). i don't mind people putting kits or shakers or spoilers on a car it's when they advertise them as it e.g a xy falcon 500 advertised as a GT it cheapens the experience for toughs who own a real gt same with a new car like an fpv, hsv, xr or ss. After showing him many Fords he in the end told me "I'm not buying a Ford". So he buys this VN which has 2 subs cut into the parcel shelf, first mod a nice amazing pod filter not enclosed. Has a neon in his interior. He also likes those retarded altezza's that look like they belong in Back to the Future. As for the ******* up examples they look like the Beez Kneez to him.

My all time favourite.
/I wonder if the VT owners would feel flattered by this.... the line has to be drawn somewhere.

The thing is the great customs of yesteryear took parts of different cars, many customs built on cheap to get base spec models...and its roughly the same thing going on now...people have no respect and or clue for kind of stuff... Take the Vt lights on the Vn whats so wrong with that...? Is it because it's a commodore? Are Merc lights on a Mercury (al la merculies) wrong? (but the wing spoils things..) The thing is poeple are doing stuff instead of sitting there thinking that some muppet will think its wrong. And thats comendable we would not have interesting cars if poeple listend to the naysayers...

Look at the bog and ill-fitting position of the lights. The whole car looks like it's taped together. If someone made it look nice with a good paint job, etc, then I don't think there would be too much argument. But it looks revolting and tacky.

I know a guy who has an "unfinished XE" which has been like that for 8 years. Still wastes more money on crap, rather than actually make it look nice and drive properly.

If your putting stickers or badges onto a car when it isn't what the badges / stickers make it out to be, its no different from me putting a Toyota badge onto my Ford. Because it isnt what the badge says it is.
Plus theres more XY/XW Replicas going around these days, then are there normal XY/XW's. Its so annoying.

It doesn't worry me one little bit. Personally, doing up an Executive or GL or whatever to look like something else is not my cup of tea, but the world would be pretty dull if we all believed in, and did exactly the same things. Having said that, I also think that it does detract somewhat from the genuine articles.....
