I had a 77 XC GXl 5.8L in the early to mid 80's in that you beaut steel blue colour that they came in ....While it was a fantastic car and a joy to drive I reckon todays Fords would run rings around it on all levels (except the safetly factor.....Those nice thick steel bumpers which would look after you in a prang compared to todays plastic crap). Nice car though for its time..More of a highway car than a city driver....bulky and heavy and have stood the test of time well...Do you have any pics of your XC?

Its only a wagon ..... But I drive them because they are great cars to drive. New cars are good for getting around .... hence the BA but drive the others way more. Have you driven in a 500+ HP 383 V8 in an early 70's Falcon? Many that have will pay oodles for it!

For another 5 to 7 grand you can get yourself a good used 2 year old XR8 with less than 40,000 on the clock.....although the XR has no investment potential (yet)

I still can't understand the appeal of XW/XY GTHO's either.....You'd only buy one for the potential capital gain, not because they're a nice car...The GTHO's are a product of motor media beat up on the back of a few Bathurst wins in the late 60's/ early 70's IMO that people fell for and made many successive owners wealthy in the process. Sure they're certainly fast but good looks and comfort?....forget it. Not to say I wouldn't mind one though ha ha !
each to their own mate, some people prefer to drive older cars. i think people who pay these prices for old cars are well aware that they could get a faster, safer and better handling car, probably brand new, for the same price, but some people still prefer to drive an old car.

you obviously haven't been bitten by the old car bug and your example of an XC back in the 80's confirms that... an XC back then was only a few years old.

some of us have owned new cars too, but i'd rather drive my P6 any day than a 'newer' ford. yes, it uses twice (or more) as much fuel as current V8's and it's a lot slower, but it's what i choose to drive. to hell with fuel prices and insurance premiums. i am happy driving a car that i love.

If you had the dosh and wanted a coupe, the whole motor, running gear, body work was all going to be redone, you would want a good starting point. Bodywise it seems to be very workable.

When any XY is worth 20k these days and a faker shaker now starting to pull 50g's its a mater of time before people start looking at the next most desirable make. I almost bought a XB coupe 3 years ago for 8k (351 toploader) and knocked it back due to apprentice wages. Now I'm kicking myself.

Wont be long before LTD's, Landau's, and ZC's- ZF's will be worth twice what they are now.

You get so many time wasters and idiots with eBay, regardless if you are a seller or buyer, so it's little wonder the guy responds the way he has. Obviously if the guy wanted everyone to know his reserve price he would of published it.

The coupe prices are much why i've decided of late to just not worry about getting a project coupe when i can just head back stateside to the auction i worked at and pick up
my dream chevelle or nova and save about 10k in the process :p even with getting it here. Especially with the aussie dollar the way it is.

I see where you are coming from...but....aussie coupes are a bit rare as obviously they were only really available here and NZ.

Coupe IMO are actually slightly undervalued at the moment. Much rarer than sedans so its only going to get worse/better depending on what side of the fence you are on.

Did anyone else notice this??

Bidder 6 (the winning bidder) has 100% bidding activity with this seller.
and has -1 feedback.

Just leaves me wondering if the bids were genuine or not.
(bidder 6 that is)

2gaygirls? Won the auction but didn't pay. I think he was artificially inflating the bids.

Guys that coupe is a bargain as coupe sale have gone through the roof as rarety are getting hard to find original coupe. Muscle car, vintage, sport coupe and classic are unperdictable sales price and anyone willing to pay big buck for it.
