Had a beaut day out at Lakeside today. We got to go out on the parade laps at lunchtime in my mate's XR8 until a guy in a BF Cobra R Spec who obviously thought it was another race on the schedule put his $80K limited edition ride into the armco
Note the damage to the armco barrier on the left. more pics from the day here |

Unfortunately I missed going, I had a work kaboom to sort out.
Lakeside is a very technical track and it is very easy to come to grief if you do not know it and/or have a lapse of concentration. Going splat on a parade lap, while being a crowd pleaser, is a sure wat not to get a second invite. |

All we saw as we came over the rise was a massive dust cloud and there was the GT backed into the fence. We couldn't believe it! The talk afterwards was he was going nuts out there and had been complaining the day before that he couldn't get over 160kays down the front stretch. All I can say is thankfully he didn't take anyone else out with him. I believe he will have no insurance under the circumstances.
I've done these parade laps quite a few times in my Tbird at these events and there is usually always someone who goes to far. |

i was on the track afew cars back and after was talking with the person who he was trying to pass on the inside and he said that it started to get a 4wheel drift up beside him as he was going by and instead of backing off a little he panicked and hit the brakes which then put him straight off right in front of him,the person in the other car (an old ap6 valiant with drum brakes) was very happy it didn't spit back out in front of him as he knew the old drum brakes weren't going to stop him in time. The track officials wanted a very slow first lap to let everybody out then have little bit of reasonable fun down the straight but be respectful all else and not pass unless let through or very safe to do so
