After moving house recently I have gone from very quick ADSL to snail paced dial up and it is frustrating...

Right now I am getting 34.6Kbps is that even humane?

Apparently I will be able to get ADSL in March 2006 - so there’s something to look forward too.

28.8 avg

24.6 slow

33.4 fast

cant get adsl as street is optic fibre and adsl is only approved for copper...however if enough of us put pressure on our local members and get Lil johnny to make optic fibre a declared service then we can all have adsl at 160x the current rate!!!!! speed wise not cost.

Thats not humane........

I used dialup overseas on my laptop and it felt like snail's pace..... So drove to the local macca's and paid 3 pounds an hour for high speed Wireless!

I am on the iiNet Heavy Plan ($89.95 per month)

80GB downloads

& I get:

7 Mbps Downloads (faster than most cable connections - althought I know some users getting close to 20Mbps on other ADSL2+ connections -> smashes cable to pieces)
1 Mbps Uploads (up to 4 times faster than any cable connection)

+ I use VoIP = really cheap phone calls and a free second phone number

Would highly recommend iiNet. Anything < 1500k these days isn't broadband :jab:

It's actually ADSL2+ which goes up to 24Mbps but they have capped it to 12Mbps max while they test stability (but are rumoured to be releasing it soon). But i'm really far away from the exchange so I only get about 7 Mbps download / 1 Mbps upload - which is still faster than all of my mates cable connections

How fast do you actually sync? (just curious)

Hrmm, if you're currently getting 8Mbps - your exchange has been upgraded. If it hasn't - you'll only be getting 1.5Mbps.

If it has - and you're only getting 8Mbps, your router might only be an ADSL1 router (capable of speeds up to 8Mbps) - if thats the case - upgrade to an ADSL2+ router and you'll probably go very close to 12Mbps (and higher again when they uncap the ADSL2+ speeds - up to a possible 24Mbps)

ADSL 1500/256 here.

Can't wait for ADSL2 (even tho my modem only supports up to 8000).

Its not looking too good that I'm down to 20% left of my d/l allocation with 23 days left to go....thankfully next month the d/l limits increase !!!

I'm running a 512/512 SDSL through WestNet, as the higher uplink bandwitdh is necessary due to the running of 'Cruize Radio'.

What you are actually paying for is Speeds of up to 12Mbit Per Second, not actually a 12Mbit connection. Keep in mind that ADSL2+ speeds vary from user to user depending on distance from the Exchange, and other factors. If you are getting 8Mbit then consider yourself lucky.

Tell them it will save them money.

If they don't believe you, tell them to take a look at the phone bill and count up the cost of connection to the web a couple of times a day. Also, point out that at the moment, the phone is not available for calls while dialled up to the web.

Even a 256k ADSL connectionis an improvement over dial-up for those two reasons alone. Do your research and have costs of connection, and two or three plan prices already in hand to backup your case.

If you have their interest with the initial argument, but don't have any options to suggest right there and then you may lose the momentum, and therefor the battle.

Be stuffed if I'm moving to Korea and driving a bloody Hyundai, just to get faster broadband. With the "trailer trash" technology we are allowed access to in this country a 100 MBit internet connection is a wet dream :

The reason the 'Evil Empire' won't match overseas connections is because that will showcase how inept, and incompetent, their infrastructure planning and management has always been. Just look at the ADSL2/2+ situation.

Also, look at how disadvantaged, technologically speaking, non-metro residents are. If anything illustrates mis-management of a telecommunications infrastructure it is how regional people are having alternative technologies thrust down their throat in hopes they will get use to it and not ask for the 'REAL DEAL'.

ADSLII.

I'm currently shaped.. after 2 weeks.

Only have an ADSL modem, as I get shaped anyway, I don't see the point. Most servers max out at 250kb/s anyway and and P2P I do is hampered by my 1Mb upload speeds. Ratios' scuk a$$.

Test run on 12/12/2005 @ 7:12 A.M.

Mirror: iiNet
Test type: ADSL

Your connection speed:

kbps: 4374.2
KB/s: 546.775
Mbps: 4.2716796875

Who is your ISP?

Not too many offering a 1500/512, as common plan is 1500/256, so I'd be curious to know.

Corporate internet here, i think the server runs out of melbourne. Recently had the wiring in the office upgraded to a fibre optic line down to the street. Moves along nicely

Does anyone have Optus-cable on a 3gig plan? I know that my Dad's boss has it on his home computer and I havn't heard anything about it from Optus.

Its just that I'm paying for unlimited which is 12gig and I only use upto 1-2gig a month.

If anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Nathan.
