Sounds awesome. My first car was $700 and was a "stopgap" I kept for 7 bloody years. AM only radio, cross ply tyres and a three speed auto. The Pintara would be sheer luxury!

Good on you for buying a car on your own. I know to many people who drive a new small car bought by mummy and daddy.

Lol mummy and daddy bought my car :P
I was goin to say CA18 or CA20 but got beaten to it. SR20 sounds plausible but its up to you whether its worth it or not. |

Yeah.. my engine is the CA20E.. SOHC 4cyl, 2v per cyl, 8.8:1 comp...
83kW @ 5200rpm 168Nm @ 4000rpm... The KA24 has 96kW and 198Nm... and peaks tq at 2500rpm, same rpm for peak kW. Its also a tad heavier though.. and thirstier (by a surprising amount).

A friend has one of the older, R31 type Pintaras with the CA20E, not a bad engine for what it is really. Still going after countless 6500-7000rpm excursions, *intially* caused by a sticking throttle cable. but afterwards... Ran out of oil once (oil guage didn't work), but it's still going, still enjoying high rpm activities, just with a hint more bottom end noise. Still the original 350,000km engine... It's not especially fuel efficient when you flog it, go figure, but would get 7l/100km on the highway.
Anyway, enjoy the new car, wouldn't run LPG on it though. |

And I don't care what it is, its a first step! And a lot more to be proud of than a subsidised gift. |

Its the independance that is important, not the make of the car - good for you.

Now you can slap on a NISMO sticker because you know they are good for 100kw at the wheels. Or maybe a TRD sticker because then youll have 101kw.
Lol anyways you will have the pride of knowing that you worked for and paid for it. I know i always feel good when i buy something ive worked for. |

The Ford Corsair Ghia was the one that came with the 2.4L KA24E, the original Nissan's that had the KA24E were the T, Ti and TRX (sports model). Great little engines that keep on chugging (I have a 91' Ti myself). The SR20DET came in the Bluebird form that weren't available over here, only by import. The Bluebird could also have the CA18DET that we see around. Mate of mine recently bought a TRX that had the SR20DET transplanted into it, gives any I6 a run for its money.

Two quick questions:
1. When are you going to take it to the drag strip? 2. If anything slower than 14's is "Painfully Slow" then will 18's be "Dead"? (You know this was always going to come back to haunt you)

My mate used to own one of those CA20E Bumdragger (tm) Pintara's. We canned the living sh!t out of it and it just kept coming back for more...
Heaps of surf trips down the coast, with Snoop crankin' on the tape player....Aah, good times ;) Like Turbotaxi said, it's all about independance to start....did someone say SR20DET front cut @ $2500?
