Saw my first FG X XR8 parked in my street early last week. It was Kinetic in color like almost all the FG Xs I've seen on the street, sadly the rims had already done some kerb bashing.

I really didn't care for the crease along the centre of the bonnet buldge which isn't immediately apparent in magazine images. It's entirely unnecessary and detracts from the car's appearance.

Be good if there is concentration in getting confirmed orders with SIDOs sorted. Had a 1st allocation car secured in Oct last year. While price protected it will be 6 months since contract with dealer signed come this Friday (3rd April) and is already Vista confirmed over 5.5 months. I guess good things come to those that wait.

There is a lot of talk out there that Ford is
not going to be building any extra XR8s.
I dont recall anything from Ford just a lot
from the media about the extra cars.

From the new CEO in the first post: "You've got to see derivatives like the XR8s; we're about to put more of those into production, almost double the original number of cars."

to me the price is too much for what they are..essentially a bare bones GT but full GT price tag.

when mustang comes these xr8s will go for low 50s.

Ah Hulk -stirring the pot - good to see but just make sure you are stirring the pot with something of substance in it....

Disagree with the bare bones GT- simply wrong. You know better, so this is obviously a none to subtle troll. If not-let me spell it out....

The FGX XR8 is not a bare bones GT, it you are going that line it is more like a bare bones R spec- it is an R Spec without 6/4 piston brembos, rather 4 piston brembos on the front and Ford sports brakes whatever that means on the rears.

It has the Rspec suspension/staggered tyres which GT did not get.

It has the communications system with big screen (GT has not got this).

It has a more conservative styling than FPV GT and the Rspec, your mileage may vary, some may prefer, others may not.

And the Mustang is really a different market, smaller 2 door, cramped in rear, lighter car with probably tighter handling, but different engine, different rods, pistons, inlet manifold to name a few things and NO SUPERCHARGER.

So they are 2 separate markets....

You truly are one of life's mysteries.....

The XR8 costs less then the GT and for that matter less than the GS in many circumstances. You get R-Spec suspension, Brembo's, leather as standard, Sync 2, Sat Nav as standard and the 335 motor. How is that bare bones? The only things that are missing are the body kit and different dash cluster.

The Mustang owner is after a different sort of car then the XR8 owner. Get the facts right and wake up to yourself.

You know this looks like a great car, and i fail to see why FORD has not tried their hardest to sell as many of these cars as they can, i mean, just think of all the extra sales, for every car sold, from an radiator hose to performance parts to anything that an individual whom want to do that little extra to their car....why have FORD been so short sighted,...isnt the profit margin, the almighty dollar the ruler at the end of the day...???

i have driven the fgx xr8.. my impression when i looked down at the trim surrounding the transmission was "bare bones". not a button or anything on the trim and its a single colour tone as well. a massive piece of trim which is completely bare. I was stunned.

step in a GT and theres the starter button and multi colour toned plastics to at least disguise the large bare piece of trim.

then I see the exact same wheels as the old model GT with ford centrecaps. to me it said clearance line parts bin special.

then the dealer said it was $62k and i have to wait 6 months to get it. hmmm ok..

just months earlier the clearance GT fg was $64990 with leather and sat nav.

id shop the mustang against the fgx xr8 and ill bet many other do as well.. just like people said noone will shop the territory against the falcon wagon.

Well I have to say I'm pretty chuffed with my "parts bin special" XR8.

XR8 interests me and I would get an optioned up one if in the market right now for a car most probably. But not enough in it to trade into one from the MK II GT-E. Think I am going to hang on to it for a while now, already 50,000km down on it.

I am not going to get drawn any further into your argument apart from this. You have stated it is a bare bones GT at GT pricing. This is based upon lack of starter button and a few trim parts? Please. The XR8 is cheaper and you can get them cheaper than $62k easily. Mine was $58,500 DA. Yep it comes with the GT wheels etc but the GT from memory didn't have Sync 2 or R-Spec suspension. The XR8 was never designed to be a GT. It was always aimed at being an affordable performance V8. So that is a bloody good bargain. I have no drama with the waiting time. This car is worth it.

It's like saying a XR6T is a bare bones F6 want to be. It's also pretty obvious that you don't intend on buying one and don't know what buyers want when it comes to the Falcon and Mustang. If you want to get your post numbers up that's fine. Just don't write dribble designed to get the back up of people who know better and put their money where their mouths are.

Arguable the FGx XR8 will smell much sweeter being a GT with new model advancements and fresh look at a price tag of mid $50ks....

Hulk- I have driven an FGX XR8 and I was stunned, at how it kicked out sideways when I went WOT in low gear on a roundabout, I was stunned at the noise out the rear pipes and the super up front, I was stunned at how people were racing up smiling and throwing thumbs up and asking what it was

I am also stunned that you did not get that tunnel vision focus when driving the car WOT where everything narrows and the last thing on you mind is pink buttons and interior colour scheme.

Looking at the trim surrounding the transmission- oh my- what you doing that for? Not interested in WOT the unit and getting that tunnel vision which is what the good folk at Ford designed the car for?

Oh right-yes you are used to driving 1,000 hp machines and this ho hum 500 hp does not give you that tunnel vision and buzz eh.

After driving my XR8 for almost a week i can say i love it & that's what it's all about. Now i know how batman feels taking the batmobile out through the secret entrance. The sound it makes when you start it & roll it front first from the garage, something i will never get sick of not to mention just the pleasure of driving it.

I love my XR8 Manual and my GTP auto with the same motors. The manual is more fun but I think the auto is faster.
I don't think Ford will build any more Falcons than they need too. They don't care about the Falcon anymore. And before the end of the year all the replacements will be here.
1. Mustang to replace FPV cars.
2. Mondeo to replace Falcons.
3. Everest to replace Territory.
Why would Ford build more of something they don't want to build.....
If you want an XR8 then order one NOW>>> otherwise you will miss out....

Everest is not the replacement for Territory, they are 2 different vehicles. It's more likely Edge will replace it and that won't be built until at least next year?
